BW's inconstistency in Ash's capabilities

Alright, so far I have watched only the first 10 episodes of Best Wishes, and for whoever has seen the last episodes of Sinnoh League Victors, that's just sad to see Ash battle.
With or without electric attacks, Trip's Snivy shouldn't have lasted more than a few minutes. Quick-attack still exists, so does Iron Tail, Tackle, and Pikachu's experience and speed.
His only feat so far is to have shot a water gun at a wall in his first gym battle, wow....that's what passes for creative after the Advanced Generation series?
I know his pokémon are all new, he's unfamiliar with them and some of their attacks, but if he could defeat a Dragonite (Drake), Darkrai (Tobias), Latios (Tobias), Articuno (Noland) and a Regice (Brandon), I think he can handle a Tranquil or Servine, even with new pokémon.
Seriously, this is getting sad, I feel like I'm watching the first season all over again when he barely knew what to do with a pokémon. Where did his creative strategic thinking go? Where did all his experience with fire and grass types go ? When did Pikachu grow so weak? And, which is more, why does he still believe he can catch a pokémon by just throwing a pokéball at it without battling it? (cf. Pidove and Snivy).
I don't know what you guys think about it, but so far I'm only watching the Best Wishes! series cause I love pokémon and not because I'm interested in the plot or the characters.
I played the Gen V gams, and they are really good, much better than I anticipated and frankly the plot and the character all have their merits. But so far, I have to agree with Hellion who recently wrote an article called: "Best wishes! Wish List". This season is really lacking a lot to grasp my full attention and interest, and so far, the game has been better than the anime for me.
And for those who have only been watching pokémon since the Best Wishes! series, then plese watch the Advanced Generation, the battles at the Silver conference, the Orange Archipelago, and quite frankly the entire Diamond & Pearl series because that was incredible ! (except for that par where the writers thought it'd be funny to crash Ash with an unbeatable trainer who's probably on a par with the Elite Four..... God why couldn't he just win ???!!!).
I love pokémon, and I really hope the show picks up soon
PS: It has been pointed out to me that this was the case in actually all the previous series.....which I have to admit is actually true, I didn't think about it ^^ so my apologies, but nevertheless, I feel like this is getting worse, and it's just painful to watch Pikachu being taken out by lamos like Snivy/Servine
