BW's inconstistency in Ash's capabilities

Alright, so far I have watched only the first 10 episodes of Best Wishes, and for whoever has seen the last episodes of Sinnoh League Victors, that's just sad to see Ash battle.

With or without electric attacks, Trip's Snivy shouldn't have lasted more than a few minutes. Quick-attack still exists, so does Iron Tail, Tackle, and Pikachu's experience and speed.

His only feat so far is to have shot a water gun at a wall in his first gym battle, wow....that's what passes for creative after the Advanced Generation series?

I know his pokémon are all new, he's unfamiliar with them and some of their attacks, but if he could defeat a Dragonite (Drake), Darkrai (Tobias), Latios (Tobias), Articuno (Noland) and a Regice (Brandon), I think he can handle a Tranquil or Servine, even with new pokémon.

Seriously, this is getting sad, I feel like I'm watching the first season all over again when he barely knew what to do with a pokémon. Where did his creative strategic thinking go? Where did all his experience with fire and grass types go ? When did Pikachu grow so weak? And, which is more, why does he still believe he can catch a pokémon by just throwing a pokéball at it without battling it? (cf. Pidove and Snivy).

I don't know what you guys think about it, but so far I'm only watching the Best Wishes! series cause I love pokémon and not because I'm interested in the plot or the characters.

I played the Gen V gams, and they are really good, much better than I anticipated and frankly the plot and the character all have their merits. But so far, I have to agree with Hellion who recently wrote an article called: "Best wishes! Wish List". This season is really lacking a lot to grasp my full attention and interest, and so far, the game has been better than the anime for me.

And for those who have only been watching pokémon since the Best Wishes! series, then plese watch the Advanced Generation, the battles at the Silver conference, the Orange Archipelago, and quite frankly the entire Diamond & Pearl series because that was incredible ! (except for that par where the writers thought it'd be funny to crash Ash with an unbeatable trainer who's probably on a par with the Elite Four..... God why couldn't he just win ???!!!).

I love pokémon, and I really hope the show picks up soon

PS: It has been pointed out to me that this was the case in actually all the previous series.....which I have to admit is actually true, I didn't think about it ^^ so my apologies, but nevertheless, I feel like this is getting worse, and it's just painful to watch Pikachu being taken out by lamos like Snivy/Servine

Ash always starts out like that.

I bet that by the end of BW, we'll witness Ash taking down a legendary again and then he'll reset again at the start of next gen. It's a never-ending circle.

    Copy/Paste

This has been asked many, many, many times before. He's inconsistent because the writers don't expect people to still be following him since the Kanto days. To the older fans, were are like "WTF", but since he's being kept for the newer kids, they don't mind it at all. He's an avatar for all the new young boys and girls coming into the series. His development usually only last one saga then he goes back to square one. It's been done before, and it will continue happening until the series comes to an end.

The writers will never seemingly let anyone win in this show. It's funny comparing this show to something like Yu-Gi-Oh were the main character is wins 90% of the time due to god pulls.

Which is the main problem in the first place.

The writers just need to face the fact that there are still some of us (some almost 20 like me) that have been watching since the Kanto days. Its disappointing for us to see Ash do something awesome (like defeat Tobias' Darkrai) and then revert to episode 1 of the original series again a few weeks later at the beginning of the next series. I understand its for the kids that just started liking it because they are younger, but it gets a bit old.

besides, I'd be ready to bet money (a little) on the fact that there are quite a few of us out there who are, as said before, 20-something and are still fans of pokemon and watch the anime, I understand the whole, new beginning, breaking off with the previous installments and all that, but still.... pikachu almost single-handedly defeated a latios before losing to a photographer's snivy....

Also, how is Ash going to be 10 ? This is not actually bothering me, but still, it'd be fun to see ash 15 or 20 and have vastly superior training skills and pokemon teams :) See Charizard alongside Garchomp and Raichu would be a truly incredible sight :)
