I don't know if it is normal...

...But I visualise music. I discussed it earlier with some friends and none of them could relate, but much like a 3D, naturalised equaliser, my mind creates a sort of moving and continuous picture of an environment impacted by the music I have on and I "see" it even if my eyes are open and being used for other things. Different sounds and their particular volume will make changes to the environment I visualise and move through throughout the song - for example, a twinkling segment on the piano might make snow fall, stars shine or plants flower, while strong beats may impact the terrain and the texture/consistency of it and a swooping change in pitch or tone might just form a mountain or large building.

I'd be interested to see if anybody else gets this. I've just always had it happen, but I thought everybody did.

This reminds me of some types of synesthesia (though I'm not saying it is that). I know some people with synesthesia see sounds as colours - it does sound a little similar to something like that.

Interesting... I did wonder if it might be something like that. I've always found synesthesia intriguing but always figured I was pretty much just a bit mental/something of a daydreamer since it didn't match up entirely. :P

Mine's not as lush-sounding as yours, but I get something similar. (Mine also sounds more "feel-y," though.) I have mentioned it before.

I totally understand what you're talking about. Sometimes a song just gives me the perfect image to go with it. Maybe it's because I have an over-active imagination. :P

That's interesting, I have a friend who has similar experiences with music. She really dislikes music with heavy bass, which causes her vision to become obscured by black squares. Are there any types of music that cause unpleasant effects for you?

Aaaah, it's good to hear from people who get this kind of thing too. xD I don't have such an issue with music with heavy bass, but I do find that the songs have to be quite rich/intricate for much detail to come of them, which makes sense I guess.

@Ebelle ; It's just good to now know that I'm not alone. :D
