Swirlix is not an 'inanimate food' object. It's a dog.
I have no idea why people keep thinking it IS a food pokemon. It's based on food, kind of, but it's clearly not.

Yeah, it's obviously a dog. But then again, the only bits we've seen of it with its feet were gameplay footage.
It's artwork makes it look likes it's literally cotton candy on a stick :u
It's artwork shows it floating, but it never seems to from what we've seen ingame so far.
It's based off of cotton candy, but the point is people actually think it IS cotton candy. That's the only real issue. It looks like it, but it only looks like it in the one official image we have of the pokemon, it's model tells a huge and different story.
This isn't a pokemon you can pick up by it's tail and chomp on it(you can't even do that to Vanillite, it's solid ice and 12 pounds of it at that!)
But people rip on the poor pup because of the misconception that it IS fully and truly, an inanimate blob of cotton candy.
The Vanillite line isn't food either.

Though, almost all pokemon, sans ghosts and a few molten-bodied pokemon, can be killed and consumed I'm sure, but neither vanillite nor swirlix -are- food. Based on them? Sure, but they aren't. And i'm grumpy with the idea that they are very much hated because of it.
Though, I enjoy Swirlix than I do vanillite

Aw man, I was actually legitimately excited to have a cotton candy Pokemon.
Swirlix is still cute, though.
I actually thought it was a dog from the beginning...
I knew it was a poodle but I love it anyways.
Hope it doesn't turn generic but even so, I will still love my cotton candy mon :3
