Ash’s “We’re going to the gym first!” attitude

This attitude of Ash has shown itself mainly when a female character wishes to do something different than a gym battle when they reach a city with a gym. This is mainly present when May or Iris want to do something.
It was seen in the most recent U.S. episode where Ash wants to battle Burgh when Dento suggest going for that ice cream cone and Iris agrees and Ash seems to go off along with Pikachu’s attitude (just notice its facial expression when Ash is yelling).
The worst time was in On a Wingull and a Prayer when he snapped off at May because they missed the boat to the next gym on Dewford Island.
Its like Ash thinks his gym battle is the MOST important thing that will happen when the group enters into a town.
How would you deal with Ash if you were traveling with him and you wanted to do something different than him and he snapped at you?
If it were me; first off no 10-year-old is going to snap at me and second I’d go and do what I wanted to do because Ash seems to think that everyone has to be at the gym to see him battle. The only reason that I’d go watch Ash battle would be if I were challenging the same leader and wanted to study their technique before fighting them.
