Why is this awkward? Guys can be friends with girls without any romance. Or do you have a crush on this guy?

I don't see why it has to be awkward. Just explain the situation and there you go.

Her friend's not going to believe her. I mean, they're going to laser tag together, so they're clearly lovey-dovey-funny-bunnies.

I think if you're friends with someone of the opposite gender and you're not together but you hang out with them a lot or even not that much because you're good friends and everyone is saying you're a couple that's pretty awkward because typically when you explain that you're not, people don't really believe it and insist. Particularly awkward if the other person is interested in you or even if they're not, if these things are also said to them or to the two of you together, as they often are. I dunno, I've experienced this and I found it pretty unpleasant.

Just remember that you don't have a crush on this person. Sounds like stupid advice, I know, but sometimes (particularly when you're a teenager) if people tell you you have a thing for someone often enough, you find yourself questioning whether you actually do and trying it out. Not a good idea, trust me.

Sounds a bit like how we joke about ships here. I mean, most of the time we do joke around about people being couples. But it's nothing serious.

I guess those jokes can have different levels of sincerity.

Anyway, when this has happened to me when I was younger I found it pretty awkward so I can relate with what she's saying.

That's what I'd do, but then again I don't much care what rumors fly around about me as long as they aren't actively malicious :/

Such is life, eh? Just deny that you're an "item," and I'm sure if he's sensible (assuming he likes you as just a friend) then he will do the same. The rumor will stop circulating eventually, and others will replace it. It was like that when I was in high school too, if I hung out with a female friend all of a sudden people were asking me questions :P but I just ignored/denied them and everything was all good in the end. Some people these days will go to ridiculous lengths to create any sort of gossip or drama, so it's not totally unexpected, unfortunately :/ anyway, best of luck quelling the rumors.

Well, all went well ,we chatted for a bit and neither of us have any interest in each other whatsoever, so all is well. Kicked some ass in laser tag, seized some bases, all went good. Thanks everyone, xD
