The Pokemon of the Underworld, Pokedex 594-609, are a group of mischievous Pokemon formed from the dark parts of souls. They live in the Underworld, forced to wander around although on occasions they manage to escape and often wreak havoc across the land. However, despite popular belief, they are not completely evil. In fact, many of them seem to simply act out because of their loneliness and pain. Strong trainers are able to capture these Pokemon and reform them, saving them from a lonely fate.
So far, Abbarm, Costelleg, and Bancrypt have been introduced from this group. The new Pokemon, Zorua and Zoroark, are also members of the Underworld Pokemon. The Underworld Pokemon are all either part-Ghost or part-Dark and, in-game, are not catchable till post-E4. The reason for this, and where you can catch them, will be revealed later on.
All of the Underworld Pokemon draw inspiration from Yokai for the most part. There are a group of 2-stage Underworld Pokemon, all part-Ghost, that evolve through the use of the Fire, Water, Thunder, and Grass stones. Here is the Fire one, a 2-stage line based off of the Wanyudo.
#602 - IXXLE
Japanese Name: グ-ルリン
Classification: Skull Wheel Pokemon
Weight: 47 lbs.
Etymology: The American name combines Ixion, a Greek king who was fused to a burning wheel for all eternity, and "axle". The Japanese name combines "ghoul" and "rin" which means "wheel".
Design: Ixxle's head is a human-shaped skull. In its eye sockets are white "x"s meant to represent how, because it is always spinning, it is constantly dizzy. Sticking through its head are two bones that form a skull and cross-bone shape. Connected to the bones are four, bent bones that connect to each other in a circle. Finally, it has fiery flames that surround the circumference of its body. Basically, a flaming skeletal wheel.
Origin: It is based on the Japanese demon Wanyudo, a flaming wheel with a ghastly head attached to it. The Greek character Ixion, which inspires the English name, is a bit similar as he was also punished by being attached to a burning wheel.
#603 - AXXION
Japanese Name: バイクロ
Classification: Skull Bike Pokemon
Weight: 153 lbs.
Etymology: Its American name is similar to its pre-evolution, except "axle" and Ixion have been switched. The Japanese name combines "bike" and "dokuro", meaning "skull".
Design: The bottom part of its body is made up of two wheels, which are simply two small Ixxle's connected together by three bones in a triangle shape. On top of those bones is a solid rectangular body. Two spiked bones stick out of the shoulders and curve back, resembling handlebars. It has skeletal arms and hands coming out of the front of its body. On top of the body is a thin neck and a large human-shaped skull, surrounded by red flames, and two small orange dots forming the pupils. Think of Gob's segway, but on fire...and a skeleton.
Origin: Well, he's basically a flaming segway skeleton...is there any more to know? I guess he's similar to Canieval as they're both fire-types with a bike motif, but Axxion is less of a daredevil and more of a quirky unicycle. He also is inspired, especially in the head, by Marvel's Ghost Rider. I can kind of imagine a trainer riding on the back of Axxion like a segway...which probably won't inspire the same level of fear as Ghost Rider would, lol.
Gameplay: First off, Ixxle is the first Pokemon to evolve since Generation I through the use of a Fire Stone. Because of this, Axxion won't learn many attacks so make sure to wait before using a Fire Stone right away.
It may not surprise you, but Ixxle and Axxion can use Flame Wheel. Like Canieval, they are fast physical attackers, however they have a bit more defense and special defense and won't break apart too easily.
