Observations:

OMG I totally have a crush on Olivier Mira Armstrong. I know this because her presence made me temporarily forget that there is so little Mustang in these episodes. I think it's problematic though that there's so much animosity between my two FMA crushes.

But it's just soooooo satisfying watching her play everyone around her like a fucking harp. Also, every time she asked Ed for info and he wouldn't give it I wanted to be like "JUST TELL HER YOU DIPSHITS SHE'S ON YOUR SIDE WHEN IT COMES TO THIS!"

Also, Kimblee's taste in clothing is hilarious. He literally looks like a pimp. I guess now I understand why he has so many fangirls?

And Pride is my new favorite homunculus. Creepy kid characters are the best. Also his shadow powers are just so many kinds of fucked-up. What was Hiromu Arakawa on when she came up with that? Whatever it was, I want some.

The weather in Briggs reminds me of, well, pretty much this entire winter. Brrr. When is spring finally going to come? It's a little late.

I love the Briggs arc. And Olivier is one of my favorite characters too.

So is Brotherhood better than 2003 yet?

I'm still reserving judgment on that until I finish it. It's going to take a lot to get over the awful rushing of the first 12 episodes or so, which ensured that Nina's and Hughes's deaths had zero impact for those who hadn't seen the original anime or read the manga. But there are some things I like better, like that they develop so many of the supporting characters much more. Like, this anime is making me love Mustang even more, which I didn't think was possible.

(To the extent that Mustang can be considered "supporting," that is. He's basically a tertiary protagonist in this series.)

I'll just say that I can't choose between the two series. The 2003 anime did a lot of things very differently, and did a lot of those things well.

Brotherhood also really did suffer from the rushing GBM mentioned.

In the end, they're both spectacular series.

    And yes, Olivier is awesome.

I also think FMA 2003 used music way better, which is a big thing for me. Brotherhood kind of overuses its soundtrack. FMA 2003 used it a lot less and thus it had a lot more impact.

A lot of the ways they dealt with race during the Briggs arc was a big mark against Brotherhood to me, too.

    More commentary here (I'm memoriescantwait).
