And so is the explanation that all the main characters represented part of himself, though to be honest, it begs the question. What would Iris and Dento represent?

OMFG THAT'S WHY IRIS IS NOT DOING SHIT! She represents the coma part of Ash. Through her not doing anything, Ash's mind will realize that he's in a coma, because Iris standing on the sidelines of episodes is his subconscious telling him he's standing on the sidelines of his live instead of living it.

IT MAKES PERFECT SENSE NOW, THE WRITERS ARE GENIUSES!!!!

Iris has become as much as part of you as breathing. I expect us to find you locked up in an asylum, regularly screaming Iris's name whilst banging your head against a padded wall.

D/P was so dark and Brock's flirtatiousness was more apparent. That's because Ash's hormones were at their peak. Now that he's learned to control himself, and learn to move on, he dropped Brock for a more relaxed, sophisticated persona. Iris represents that the past he left behind; it'll still linger until he learns to make peace with it.

TL;DR: Cilan represents Ash's new persona and life, and Iris represents his past self.

Hellion, have you ever thought that Iris was the Brock of BW and maybe that's why she doesn't seem like she doing anything in your eyes? Because I've been thinking the same thing.

For years May and Dawn along with Ash have been pretty active in the Pokemon world lately.All of a sudden we finally get a new secondary boy on the main cast. So what is a way to make him more interesting than Brock ever was? By making the main girl almost invisible.
