Haters gonna hate?

So every year, I have a Pokemon party where my friends and I trade Pokemon, watch the latest movie, and take shots every time Ash says "Pikachu." I recently had the third one. A girl who I remained friends with after high school posted on her online journal this -

"So many people know too much about that game. I go for the food and the Pokemon movie, as time goes on those things get more and more ridiculous."

Haters gonna hate. Usually, I wouldn't care if someone thought this, but at one point not long ago, she claimed to be my best friend. She barely even knows who I am now e.g. couldn't even name a single band that I liked. One of the most obvious things should be my affinity towards Pokemon. I promptly defriended her from FB. I'm not wrong, am I?

You're not wrong at all. Part of being a good friend is being tolerant, aware and understanding of each other's interests, even if you can't appreciate them directly yourself. With people who've drifted away and stopped understanding you like that, I personally feel it's like ripping a plaster off (in my experience, anyway); you can do it slowly/hesitate, hoping things will go back to how good they were or that you can make the most of it anyway, or you can be brave and rip it right off to save yourself a lot of possible indecision/lingering sadness.

I'm not saying you were in such a dramatic situation necessarily, but I do think you did the right thing. If she is that oblivious and unsympathetic to your interests, you don't really need her around.

Thanks, doll. It certainly wasn't very dramatic, but I think I've saved myself from anymore headaches caused by minor perturbations.

Yes, I do think you have. I don't really think people like that deserve your time or thought when they clearly can't give it to anybody else nicely. Good going, man.

I too recently encountered a couple of my old friends who were crazy mon friends once in the past. Just a week back, they were ridiculing Pokemon. I guess they were doing it out of peer pressure.

At last year's party, I did black out on my bedroom floor. The only thing I could remember is throwing up in a garbage can for 2 hours straight. That being said, I can't really drink dark rum anymore.

So this year, my friends and I took beer shots. It worked out a lot better :)
