Today, I would like to invite everyone to gather around, and do some reminiscing about one of the most iconic Nintendo mascots.
Today's subject is fitting for the website - Pikachu! The most famous of all Pokemon by far, even being noteworthy enough to receive a parade float at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and many TCG cards dedicated to it. Pikachu has arguably become the very face of the franchise for many, so it should come as no surprise that the electric rodent is one of the top contenders in Nintendo's long line-up of iconic characters, alongside such greats as Mario, Link, Kirby, and other such familiar faces.

Come on, let's take a little trip down memory lane~

I hope this blog entry is somewhat informative or nostalgic for you readers. Thank you for reading.

That's not the point. :x This is a chronicle, not a competitive battle analysis. The Smogon Elites have plenty of those.

My one issue with Pikachu is how OVERUSED it is in marketing. They have to throw Pikachu into every piece of Pokemon merchandise possible, even if it's promoting a new generation.

The way Nintendo uses Pikachu is like Disney throwing Mickey Mouse into merchandise and advertising that promotes the newest Pixar movie. Mickey Mouse isn't THAT overused.

It's actually pretty effective. Most girls would think of it as cute when they first see it, thus promoting Pokemon. And most boys would call it strong because of its ability to control electricity which would so make it more popular. This is imo though and I could be wrong.

Well, in the end... the franchise does need a mascot. Pikachu pretty much fills those shoes, forced or not.

It's effective because Pikachu is fairly marketable as a mascot. They had to pick something likeable, since the player characters change every Generation, so you can't exactly pick a human character. (Fairly odd situation.)
