FF is overrated (plus any of the new ones are in general kinda 'meh'), haven't played Luminous arc though.

You can pick any Persona game you want to start with since they don't connect in story, only in concept. You could also branch off to the other SMT games (Devil Survivor for the DS is good), there's common things in all of the SMT titles.

Just as a note, if you choose P3, I warn you now of the horrors that come from P3FES's The Answer. It's worth the trouble if you want to see a conclusive end to P3, but be ready to tear your hair out in frustration.

Persona is overrated.

Go with GTA instead; if not that, Metal Gear Solid

FF, go for it...

FF is difficult. Some of the games are EXCELLENT and some are just fucking stupid. If you pick that, play FFVI. It's on the GBA and it rules.

If you have a Wii, download Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. Once you get past the disturbingly stupid perspective (whose idea was it to have a platformer in 3/4ths perspective?), it's a very awesome game.
