Sound of the Sky UK DVD Problem - Why does the world hate me?

Anyone who knows me will know that I think Sound of the Sky is the best thing since sliced bread (In fact, it's better than sliced bread) so I didn't hesitate in ordering Beez Entertainment's release of the title. It was released last Monday, and I ordered it the following day. Every day it didn't arrive after being dispatched made my hatred for the postal service grow more and more. It finally arrived this morning - hallelujah! I thought as I was finally able to hold this piece of art in my hands, and put the first disc into my newly purchased DVD/Blu-ray player (for the record, this is a DVD).
That's when the problems started.
Did you know that a DVD is supposed to have a DVD menu? My Blu-ray player didn't! Did you know that a subtitle only release is supposed to have subtitles? My Blu-ray didn't! When I first put in the disc, instead of the DVD menu coming up, it proceeded straight into starting the first episode - unsubbed. Knowing I'd have no hope of getting to a menu, I used my blu-ray player itself to turn on the subtitles, then went back to the DVD.
What's this? I was watching episode 1, so why is it starting with episode 2? Whenever I try and go back (either by skipping scenes backwards or by pressing the dvd menu button) it just goes to the start of episode 2 (even once I've ejected the disc, turned off the player, turned it back on and put the disc back in). I shrugged my shoulders, as I had already streamed the series on Crunchyroll before, and decide to watch episode 2. However, when that episode ended and I was expecting it to proceed to episode 3...it went back to the start of episode 2.
I decided to test disc 2 and 3, just in case. Both of them presented the menu like normal (although I haven't had the time to watch the episodes on them yet). I put disc 1 into the DVD drive of my laptop, and it worked fine. However, I have since found out that people have been having problems with playing this series on their blu-ray players (mainly PS3 slims - for the record, I'm using an LG Blu-ray/DVD player I picked up in Tesco for £80; it's been playing DVDs and Blu-rays perfectly fine before this). Although, as this was released a week ago, and has apparently been selling well (both HMV and Amazon had sold out by the time I'd ordered; and are now running low on their new stock), as this issue hasn't been raised before (aside from a slight menu bug on PS3 slims) I'm guessing that my copy is the only one affected - and I hope so (When I brought the Naruto season 3 boxset, it had a bug where the fourth disc wouldn't work. I got a replacement and the same issue was there, so I got a refund).
I have got in touch with the licensor/distributor, Beez Entertainment via their twitter account. Hopefully they can exchange the dud for a working disc 1, because quite frankly, when I pay £25 for a 14 episode set (12 episodes + 2 OVAs), I expect it to work.
