Hello Everynyan!
As some of you know, I do a bit of video game journalism in my spare time because I have no job. Anyway, following the announcement of Microsoft reversing its DRM policies, including its region locking of games, that has left Nintendo as the last major console manufacturer still conducting the practice of region locking, which is silly and needs to stop.

I have been campaigning alongside other websites (like NeoGaf) and notable industry figures like Cheesemeister3k to help persuade Nintendo to end this practice once and for all. We currently have a petition going which is close to reaching 9,000 signatures and we would be very grateful for everyone's support - one signature can really make the difference!

I have previously written an article compiling reasons as to why the company needs to abandon this archaic policy.

Sure, I'll help :D but I don't think Nintendo is going to remove the stupid region lock in the end.

I signed. At first, I thought this petition would only be about the Wii U but I was going to sign anyway since region locking is backward policy.

I think they do it to help regional game stores, if a game comes out in the US three months before it does in Europe like fire emblem awakening most Europeans will order the game from the US and the European game stores will sell significantly less of their copies. That would probably cause them to complain to nintendo.

The people who do import games are a very small minority though, so it would hardly dent the sales figures of games in regions they are released later in.

The main reason people want region free games is so they can play the games that will never be released outside of a particular region.
