Why do I keep trying?

I need to stay out of the anime section. People always start an argument with me because I have a different opinion than most of the forums about the anime. Always.

By argument, do you mean civilized debate or something that has degenerated into name calling or general disrespect that might get you two a warning or ban if it continues?

It normally starts with me stating my opinion, somebody responding normally/smugly/angrily, I respond, they respond smugly/angrily, then I end it. I'm pretty sure that's happened nearly every time I get a response to what I say. I've never had somebody in the anime section respond with normal emotions more than once, when all I do is give my reasons for my opinion because they try to pick it apart and destroy what I said. -shrug-

If they are attacking you in their responses (mocking what you said, calling you names, etc.), I'd report the responses in question and let the mods take care of it.

If their responses are following the rules by attacking the argument instead of you, even if their tone is smug or angry, and you don't feel like you can ignore them and still enjoy your time in the anime forums, then staying away would be best. Hopefully this doesn't come across as me criticizing you. I can understand not wanting to get in a heated debate every time you post something :)

It's not that bad, but it just gets annoying. Especially if they try trolling me after only the second response. I prefer not to have "Care to provide any counter-examples to prove your point?" at the end of a "Oh, you mean when this happened? And this? And this?" type of post to start off my day when I wasn't even trying to argue about something.

imo, the debates in the anime forum aren't that bad. Certainly better than it used to be last year, when going againt certain opinions got you flamed. The forum has diligent mods, and I think almost everyone there is pretty civil.

Oh Arceus, the debated from last year were out of control. *_*

I hardly ever visit the anime section because most regulars have this weird kind of humour that generally isn't funny, like the smug trolling you just described.

My problem with this person is that they believe I need specific facts to back up my opinions. That's like saying I need to have a real reason to prefer black over blue. Especially since the thread was about opinion...
