... Did I just write a blog as though I were a realist Pinkie Pie?

Anyways, I'm using this incredibly bizarre blog to announce that Ryuutakeshi has officially returned to Bulbagarden.
Though perhaps I should have saved this for May 12 as that is more meaningful. It's be just like a new beginning...

Hmm... I might be rambling now. Anyways, hi guys. Nice to be back.

SPOILERS ABOUND!

Merry Christmas, internet. So... as many of you know, I love Les Miserables. It is by far my favorite musical ever. And as you also know, the film version came out today. I just got done seeing the 3-hour epic and...

I liked it. I'm sure that's not a surprise to anyone, but I liked the movie. First off, I got my Christmas wish of getting to see it with Kelsey. That alone made it a memorable occasion. That said, let me first address some minor things that bugged me... just a little. No fan rage, I promise.

Again, spoilers. Seriously.

-Song ordering. Yeah, they moved around the order that the songs are performed. Stars is performed before "Look Down (Paris)", "On My Own" is performed just after "A Heart Full of Love", and "I Dreamed a Dream" isn't done until after "Lovely Ladies." The biggest reorder of all was also the one that actually scared me. As some of you might have noticed, the song "Do You Hear the People Sing" was not listed as being in the Highlights Soundtrack that came out last week. And the song is not sung in the film right after "Red and Black." I was legitimately worried the song had actually been cut from the film, but instead it was placed after "One Day More" as Les Amis des ABC began the revolution. This... actually worked. Hearing the crowd break into this song as they stormed the funeral procession and began waving the banners of freedom made for a very powerful and effective scene. So I'm okay with this one. But the song ordering being changed is noticeable if you really know the show.

-Lyric changes/cuts. And this is not really a surprise. Every production changes the lyrics a little. But there are some lyrics, such as Marius wondering who saved him from the barricades, that get cut out altogether. The worst offender is HALF of "Drink With Me." Grantaire never got his solo bit where he asks, "Will the world remember you when you fall? Can it be your death means nothing at all? Is your life just one more life?" In my opinion, that's a very powerful question to be asking the students when they're at the barricade and they've just finished the first battle. But yeah, that entire half of the song gets cut (as well as most of the other students singing the opening of the song).

And there are of course just minor lyric changes that really aren't that bad. There's only one awkward part where Jackman sings the lyrics "I run a business of repute. I am the mayor of this town" but in the reverse order. It works... kind of.

-Russel Crowe. Okay, I know a lot of people are divided on his performance. Honestly, he was good. Kelsey made the point that he got the right emphasis and tone for the part. But I think his singing was just okay. Acting was good. Singing was okay. He's not Nick Jonas, but compared to the rest of the main cast he doesn't hold up as well in vocals. "Stars" was less powerful than it should have been.

-"Master of the House." More low-key than normal, but still energetic (the random Santa Clause is kinda confusing though). Carter and Cohen make a great Thenardier pair. Still, wasn't the rambunctious performance I expected for this particular song. It worked, but it was off-putting at first.

Okay, so now for the stuff I did like.

-Hugh Jackman. Awesome Val Jean. 'nough said.

-Anne Hathaway. Awesome Fantine. 'nough said.

-Eddie Redmayne. Amazing Marius. I'd rank him on par with the legendary Michael Ball. His performance of "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables" really must be experienced for its sheer power.

-The singing. Barring Crowe, the singing was really good.

-The acting. Also really good.

And a bunch of other things, like Gavroche. He's done incredibly well. There are also added scenes taken from the original novel that flesh out the story more, fill a couple plot holes, and add to the overall experience. That was well done. The new songs were also very nice. "Suddenly" feels much like "Heaven's Light" from Hunchback of Notre Dame.

And the mother of all awesomeness...

-Aaron Tveit as Enjolras. My favorite character played by a phenomenal actor. I was not disappointed. Enjolras was the leader he should be, his singing was powerful and beautiful, and his death is both tragic and heroic. And Grantaire dying with him like in the novel is a nice added touch. There was one bit that Kelsey pointed out where he seems to act a bit too quickly to Lamarque's death (for the record, Ramin Karimloo did that part best. Seriously, watch him during the song "Red and Black" in the 25th Anniversary Concert at the O2). However, it didn't really detract from the overall performance. The revolution was incredibly well done in this film and Aaron was the superb Enjolras to lead it. Bravo.

So, to end this looooooooooooong review, I'd like to say one thing to anyone who is still going to see it. Don't expect a Broadway musical. The singing is live. It's emotional. It's real. They don't try to be pretty. They don't try to belt it out. They try to tug at your heartstrings and make you feel as they do. And that is where this movie succeeds. For a film that has been in development hell for 27 years, in which all the singing is done live on-set, and with an all star cast such as this, I have no choice but to call it a success. Nitpicks aside, this film was a cinematic achievement. This is a different style, a different sound, and different look, but it's still the Les Miserables we all know and love. It's a show about hope, about love, about redemption and forgiveness, and about the never ending struggle of life. Les Mis, Cameron Mackintosh, Tom Hooper, and all of you cast and crew who made this movie a reality... Here's to them, and here's to you. Bravo.

Final Score: 10/10.

But seriously, what was with all the close-ups? :p

So as a lot of you... no, forget that. I'm not actually sure if anyone here has noticed that I've been on Bulba less and less over the last year. I'm not sure if anyone noticed my permanently removed mod italics. I'm not sure if anyone cares. And to be honest, I don't mind. This is not a cry-for-attention blog. This is more of a philosophical questioning of the forums and my place in them.

See, I could blame my inactivity on school (bit of a factor), or work (also a factor), or a social life (HA!). But that wouldn't be honest. After the disaster that was Summer 2011, followed by the disaster that was October 2011, and then a 9 month hiatus from the forums, I really thought I could come back to things and start anew. But now I'm still not visiting or participating. I'm not a mod anymore nor do I have any desire to be. I just do not enjoy being on Bulbagarden anymore.

So if that's the reason for my inactivity... what's the reason for my reason? Why do I not enjoy it? What has changed that made me go from the guy who makes 50 posts a day and is on here for hours to the guy who goes weeks at a time without thinking about this place? I have several theories.

1. I burned myself out. Possible. Saty always said I would. I'm not entirely convinced that's the reason, but it's the first thing that comes to mind.
2. I'm not enjoying Pokemon anymore. Again, possible. I still haven't finished White 2, but I blame that more on the actual game than the franchise. It just feels like a watered down version of the original and that there's not enough new to justify me caring about finishing a game I feel I've already played. I still love Pokemon though. Or, at least, I think I do.
3. The people that I enjoyed hanging out with aren't here anymore. This is the reason I find most likely. It being the internet, people come and go like the weather. But I have made friends here and enjoyed talking with them until they sort of just vanished. Now I, like them, am vanishing. And even if there are people still here that I enjoyed hanging out with... some of them have changed a bit in the last year into something I don't really want to be around.
4. The forums themselves are bad. Not something I want to admit, but I do have some issues with Bulbagarden itself. This isn't really the time and place for me to bring them up, and I have made these comments to the powers that be before. Things are changing... but not in a good way.
5. I'm nostalgic. Highly possible. I just yearn for the old "golden days" of HGSS and pre-BW and how fun and awesome it was. I forget the 2 bannings I got, the fights I got into, Wigglytuff, and assorted other incidents. *sigh* But still... I enjoyed my early days here and wish it was more like that.

So here's my question. Why do you guys find the forums enjoyable? What keeps you coming back? If any of you who I once called friends read this, what's your take on my apathy towards being here? I'm curious about viewpoints here. I want to find out what changed.

Again, this is seriously not a cry for attention. I am legitimately interested in what people have to say. It only requires people to actually read this.

Which, considering the length of this blog and its lack of cat-related topics... I'm not exactly holding my breath.

So when Juno is released and Desmond is "killed" this sets up possibly the most epic villain the games could conceive. An alien being from the First Civilization with seemingly godlike powers and intelligence. Not to mention Desmond asks his father about the possibility of calling a truce with the Templars (Likely now that they'll have a common enemy and Vidic is dead). Then there is Shawn's question regarding turning the Animus back all the way to the time of the First Civilization. We might get more answers and really see what the truth is and how the humans fought the FC back when they rebelled. Ubisoft never said that this was the end of Assassin's Creed. They only said this was the end of Desmond's Story.

And even then I think it was... okay. Desmond's story had reached a logical conclusion.

AC1: Setup of Assassin and Templar conflict
AC2: Training
ACB: Finding the Apple
ACR: Coming to terms with his role
AC3: Getting to save the world and die a hero.

As Desmond points out it may look bad that Juno is released upon the world. However, as he says they'll figure out a way to deal with her. He will not stand to see the world burn and have the whole cycle repeat itself. I really think the ending was actually not nearly as bad as people are saying and that it's no more of a WTF moment then the first 4 game endings were. I mean, we all remember how the first game ended, right?

Today I got to do one of the greatest things a guy can ever do in his life. I made a six-year-old boy smile.

As many of you know, I began playing Pokemon when I was six and was hooked from the beginning. Well, I heard that my boss' son Micah had gotten a Nintendo DS Lite for a present and had wanted to get a pokemon game, but wasn't able to. Now, Micah is a good kid and I like him. My boss is a r
eally good father from what I can tell and I'm on good terms with his family. So I decided I was going to do something special for Micah.

Tonight I went and had dinner with Robert (my boss) and his family. Then I told Micah that I heard he wanted to be a pokemon trainer and I gave him my copy of Pokemon Leaf Green. I figured the best place to start any new Pokemon Trainer is in the good ol' Kanto region with a choice of Charmander, Bulbasaur, and Squirtle. Plus Leaf Green is built to be more friendly to beginners. He named his character ASH, started with Charmander, and his first captured Pokemon was a Pidgey.

Pokemon fans, remember when we were that age? Remember how we all started out like that? How many of us named our character Ash because we wanted to be just like our immortal unholy hero as voiced by Veronica Taylor? Tonight I got to be Professor Oak for a change and start a young boy on his pokemon journey. It was a really special night for me and I'm sure it was equally special for Micah. The look of joy on his face would have made your heart melt. At the end of the evening, he gave me a hug and thanked me.

It may not be much, but I just made a difference in a young boy's life and that makes me feel very happy. Micah, I wish you the best of luck in your journey and I hope the reading isn't too tough for you.

And that is what I did today.

Anyways, recently I've decided to get back into mafia. I re-read most of my favorite games that I've played here and have begun the process of rekindling. Looking back on how I used to play and how fun it was, and seeing @Phoenicks; and I kicking ass together... well, I miss it. I kinda miss Nick from back when we used to get along.

*sigh* Either way, I'm definitely getting back into the game now, since it seems I was missed. A lot has changed in TWR and not all of it for good. I'm going to aim to try to get it back where it used to be. It'll be interesting since I'm not in charge anymore, but I still love the game and the section and I'm looking forward to enjoying the hell out of myself for the next several months. TWR Mafia 4 baby!

Oh, and I'm creating my own mafia game again. It's called Mafia of the Mages. It's basically Wizard Mafia. Should be fun.

She'll be visiting with me for 3 weeks, ending the week after the 4th of July. I'm traveling down to get her and that's going to lead to one hell of a work week that's clashing with finals. Ah well. I got it sorted.

Beyond that, I have no real plans. I'm considering taking a break from school and waiting till the fall. I don't yet know if my college is even accepting all of my transfer credits. And I'm getting a renewed scholarship so I can afford roughly two more quarters. That should be enough. I can go more if I save over the summer.

Rumor has it work is going to give me a raise. Wooo!

This summer is looking awesome and hopefully it will see everyone's favorite mod back in action where he belongs.

Wherever that is.

Albuquerque I think.

Mildly not safe for mothers to hear. Also, volume got royally screwed up for some reason so it's a bit on the loud side. Anyways... Let us begin!
