A Wizard is Never Late.

Some types of birds are known as "brood parasites," which means they lay their eggs in the nest of another species of bird, causing that bird to have to raise it as its own. Now some of the birds are quite different looking from the host, such as this Reed Warbler raising this Common Cuckoo:



It would be pretty obvs to this bird that the cuckoo did not belong to it (especially since it's too big to even fit in the fucking nest), so why does it continue to raise it?

One explanation is the mafia hypothesis. Basically what this states is that if the host rejects the egg, then other members of the species that layed the egg will come fuck up its nest and kill all it's babies. No, I'm not lying. Nature is that fucked up.
