Also I'm a little late posting this here, but May 17 was Minecraft day. On May 17, 2009, a fellow named Notch posted the first public version of his game called Minecraft to TIG forums. You can still view the original thread here. It's interesting to see which suggestions were implemented and which were not. Also it looks like the first Youtube video was posted about an hour after the game went public. People didn't waste any time.

It's been a while since I have posted one of these here so I will fill you in on some of the story that has been going on. Basically someone built a house in my back yard, but it was built over a huge scary cave, covering the cave only with a half slab of wood. I figured that this must be against some kind of building code since they are trying to sell the house and they probably are not telling people that there is a huge cave right under it and they can probably fall to their deaths at any time. The builder responded by trolling me with a fake building code before asking me to take it to the mayor at city hall, which of course there is not. In response to this, I'm building a town hall in order be able to legally blow up that house with TNT. That'll show him.

As you may have noticed, my Minecraft LP videos have been of pretty low quality, both graphics and audio, because of hardware limitations. Well I recently got a new computer and am now able to make Minecraft videos on the highest possible graphics settings and will be uploading in 720 or 1080p, which will be a significant improvement.

The problem is, I still have a backlog of maybe 8 or so episodes in low quality saved on my computer since I've been making episodes a lot faster than I can put them up. So my question is, whether you've been watching my series or not, should I continue uploading the low quality videos for continuity's sake, or should I just skip all that and just start right away on new high quality uploads? Basically what would be missing is a lot of work on the house, setting up an EXP farm using the zombie spawner, and me dying a lot in the nether.

Please let me know what you think.

In this blog I would like to talk about glitch pokemon. As you probably already know, Missingno. style glitch pokemon are formed when you force the game to encounter a pokemon that does not have a valid index number. This was very easy to do in Gen 1 for several reasons, not the least of which is the fact that the index numbers are seemingly arbitrary, with many unassigned values.

In gen 2 this problem was mostly fixed since they made each pokemon , though the values 000, 252, 254 and 255 are still unassigned. The reason they went up to 255 even though there were only 251 is probably because they just used 8 bit unsigned integers to store the data, and the maximum value for an 8 bit unsigned integer is 255 (This is probably also why EVs max out at 255 in case that seemed arbitrary to you).

In later generations the problem is all but solved, except they still have the index value 000 unassigned, and I do not understand why. As long as you have an unassigned index value you have the opportunity for a glitch pokemon, so why not just start the index numbering at 000 instead of 001? Alternatively if they are too OCD to shift the entire numbering system by 1 (so the index number would be one less than the pokedex number) they could just fill the 000 slot with a super weak pokemon like sunkern or magikarp in order to troll hackers (we know how much GF likes to troll people).

Anyway, that's the end of the rant that no one will read. If anyone knows more about programming than I do and can give a legit reason why 000 should remain unassigned please let me know.
