Why Our Society is Screwed: March 27 Edition

I've decided that since there are many many examples of 'why our society is screwed' throughout the world on a daily basis, I've decided to make this a regular column here at the ol' Bulbablog. It's basically just news stories from across the world which illustrate how screwed up our world/society is.

So here goes the March 27th edition:

Our first example is actually a pretty tragic one from Dallas, Texas. It will probably be pretty big news story this week...I already started a thread about it in the 'real world section' but it is so repulsive that I'm adding it here too...and it most definitely proves why our society is screwed. The headline reads as follows (click the link for full article and videos):

POLICE OFFICER DELAYS HOUSTON TEXANS PLAYER IN HOSPITAL PARKING LOT AS FAMILY MEMBER DIES

DALLAS -- A police officer was placed on administrative leave Thursday over a traffic stop involving an NFL player whom he kept in a hospital parking lot and threatened to arrest while his mother-in-law died inside the building.

Officer Robert Powell also drew his gun during the March 18 incident involving Houston Texans running back Ryan Moats in the Dallas suburb of Plano, police said.

"I can screw you over," he said at one point in the videotaped incident. When another officer came with word that Moats' mother-in-law was indeed dying, Powell's response was: "All right. I'm almost done."...

So, this poor family is rushing to the hospital because they received a call saying their relative is going to die soon. They get pulled over and explain the situation to the cop...then the nurses from the hospital came out and comfirmed the story...then ANOTHER cop came and said it was true...and all this asshole said was 'I'm almost done.' Ryan Moats didn't even use the 'don't you know who I am' or....'I'm in the NFL' card.

I think 'Khom?s' said it best in the thread I started about this: "And my faith in humanity as a whole takes a screaming nosedive..." Cops all over the world have an incredibly difficult and important job, and most police officers do an admirable job. But it's a-holes like this that tarnish cops' collective reputation.

It's yet another example of an egomaniac on a power trip. Instead of using common sense to determine that 'yeah, this guy ran a red light because his family member is dying' the cop just HAD to feel like a big man and point his gun and act like a 'richard.'

I just hope this guy has the stones to make a public apology or at least some sort of public statement, instead of hiding behind the union and relying on the police chief to apologize for him. At the very least this focktard better lose his job. It's cops like these that really make Eazy E and NWA sound smart.

Our second example of why we're screwed as a society comes from my home state of Minnesota. This one is priceless!

MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES SPELL 'WOLVES' WRONG ON POSTER THAT WAS HANDED OUT ON 'READ TO ACHIEVE NIGHT'

Here's the poster that was handed out last week at a T'Wolves game in commemoration of Wolves' great Sam Mitchell.

As you can plainly see, 'Wolves' on the poster, which is an artist's rendering of Sam Mitchell, is spelled without the 'L.' And it isn't as if the 'L' is simply hidden by a wrinkle in the jersey...it's just not there.

What makes this story so great is that the poster was handed out to the first 5,000 fans who showed up to Target Center (The Wolves' homecourt) as a part of an annual promotion that the team puts on called, "The Timberwolves' Read to Achieve Program" which stresses the importance of reading and education to kids! You can't make this stuff up!

And finally, our third example this week is just your run-of-the-mill stupid criminal story. But it indeed is further evidence of why our society is going to the sh!tter.

CAR CARRYING POT CRASHES INTO HIGHWAY PATROL CAR

Pretty self-explanatory, but click on the title above to read the article. A guy in South Carolina had 43 pounds of marijuana in his car when he crashed into a couple of PARKED highway patrol cars. Now, If I'm driving with that much weed in my car...I'm gonna be going like 10 miles under the speed limit and paying extra close attention the road. But this guy was obviously very stoned.

That will conclude this week's inaugural edition of 'Why Our Society is Screwed.'

Please comment and add your own examples! I'll be back next week with another edition!

Wow, that cop sounds like a terrible person who has a big ego problem. When the other officer came and told him the guy's relative was dying all he said..."I'm almost done"??!!!!! WOW. No 'sorry' or anything? Just tragic...oh yea, I'm seeing the story on TV as I write this. With all the media attention this story is sure to get, that cop better come up with a damn good apology!

And LMFAO at that poster being handed out on kids reading day!
