Kanto Adventures Blog: Day 1

I decided that for nostalgia's sake, I would blog about playing my newly purchased Pokemon Red Version. Every day I play, I will blog about it and let you all reminisce on the good times had by the Gen I games. So, here we go:
Day 1 - The Adventure Has Started
I won't bore you with the mundane details since you all know the same old story of starting out. First thing of note: I named my rival Bob. Mostly because I could and because for the Gen I games I pretty much always used one of two names for myself and the rival: my name (myself) & my sister's (rival) or Ash (myself) and Gary (rival). I wanted something different and Bob was the first thing that came to mind. I still used my name (duh).
For the starters, I had started out with Squirtle and Bulbasaur (and Pikachu) so of course I had to make the difficult choice and choose Charmander. What can I say, I like the little fire lizard even though I knew it would be hell against Brock (and Misty). Aside from that, not much happened that's any different from any one else's journey (Oak's Parcel delivered, Town Map/Pokedex received, etc.). So, off through Route 1 I go.
Between Pallet and Pewter, I managed to catch: Rattata, Pidgey, Spearow, Nidoran (M & F), Weedle, Caterpie, and Pikachu (basically everything that can be caught in the early Routes). I battled Bob just outside Viridian before heading to Pewter. I knew that Brock's Pokemon were Geodude and Onix, levels 12 and 14 respectively, and I didn't have too much that could effectively counter them. So, I did some training in Viridian Forest and Route 2 and managed to get my team between about 8 and 11 (it's always hard to effectively level up so early in this game); so it was off to Brock I went.
I can never remember that the Jr. Trainer in the Pewter Gym has a Sandshrew and Diglett and it always surprises me. He wasn't too hard but Mr. Gym Leader gave me a run for the money (I guess that's what I get for starting with Charmander), but I managed to beat him in the end with my team: Charmander, Rattata, Pidgey, Spearow, Nidoran (M), and Butterfree. I finally got my BoulderBadge and am currently on my way to Mt. Moon!
That's it for Day 1. Stayed tuned for more adventures from Kanto!
