Misty and Brock will probably appear in whatever the last few eps of the series are, but I gather everyone else like May, Dawn, Iris and Cilan will be there too, so it won't really be an original trio reunion.

To answer the title, nostalgia clouds judgement.

^ Could you clarify what you mean by that? That perhaps the nostalgic fans don't give the new seasons a chance? You shouldn't automatically assume that of every person that prefers the older seasons.

This whole thing makes no sense because 10 years ago, it was the Kanto/Orange fans like myself who hated the Johto saga and started to enjoy the anime again when AG began.

Back when the anime only consisted of Kanto/Orange and Johto, the first two seasons were considered the "golden age" and then during Johto everyone stopped watching shortly after the 3rd movie and Charizard left.

Really if there was any problem with the original trio, its how the fandom perceived them as mishandled in Johto. If that really was the case, and since they were well received in Kanto, then its not so much a character issue as a writing issue. Who knows, maybe its true that some Johto fillers seemed to have little purpose, therefore giving the characters "less importance". In the eyes of the viewers, these episodes overshadowed the moments when there really was development and good plot. Since everything in the writing is connected, then episodes with more purpose and better character development will go hand in hand and the original trio will have a better chance to prove their worth again.

The only reason Johto was stretched out as long as it was, was because the show had exploded in popularity and the writers weren't sure how to continue the series. They clearly had no long term goal at the time.

I doubt back in 2001 they knew the series would still be running 10 years later.

Yeah, I suppose it was really just a matter of getting familiar with handing 3-4 year time frames during video game development. All sagas had their fillers, I guess that Johto's just weren't as interesting to some people. This was before contests, so they had less to work with also. Which is why Unova is likely faster paced for the very reason they dropped contests, realizing they will have to keep filler runs down. But this is a different topic anyway.

Than how do you explain that so many people out there are praising Johto preferring it over new sagas? As usual you tend to generalize things, assuming how everyone shared same view about series as you do. Flaw with such argument is that most fans dont even post in threads in anime section which is usually filled with same certain group of people. many of them dont even come to forums, and from what i noticed ever since i came online back in 2003 there doesnt exist general consensus about most things going in this show with views being divided. Popularity of AG and DP isnt any bigger than its case with OS and vice versa, and surprisingly i noticed how May and Misty has stronger following than its case with Dawn and Iris.

Fanbase is counted in millions with there not existing only one view over something.
Back than during Johto it was generally accepted that original trio reunites with many people being overjoyed when Brock returned to cast after OI hiatus.Most people never had problem with original trio still finding them interesting.

Biggest complaints about Johto had nothing to do with Misty or Brock,but poor writing.People disliked how poorly writers treated several things there dropping plots like Gs ball,not giving enough focus to Ash traveling companions,TR starting to lose purpose,groups pokemon and rivals being shafted etc along with added mix of too many pointless fillers instead of using screen time more productively.

Thats complaints you can encounter the most with most fans still viewing Misty intriguing enjoying in her chronicles and cameos.Same for Brock,most found him fun in Hoenn having memorable moments and good interaction with cast(especially Max),his terrible neglect didnt happen until Sinnoh.If people didnt liked original trio back than, how to explain so many wanting them back?
How to explain thousands of fans on youtube,pokecommunity,facebook,serebii,all those petitions etc wanting that Misty returns and first group gathers again at one place?

I don't hear people say they want the original trio back as much as they used to. Most I run into say that they like Iris but want Brock's invisible ass back on the screen. Misty is barely mentioned anymore because Iris takes up bits and pieces of her attitude.
I also don't see how this will help Ash or his friends out either. I mean so what if they travel together or not? I rather a new group because I didn't like how any of the others were constructed. The Orange Island group was bland, the Hoenn group had two extra character who did little to nothing, the DP group was almost perfect but something flet missing and the BW group seems to be like the Original group except the Don battles are making some characters mean something.

There is still plenty of them which want original trio back, they just aren't so frequent on bulbagarden anymore. On deviantart, youtube, pokecommunity, even serevbii when such polls are made you would be surprised how many fans still wish that Ash, Misty and Brock get reunited for one last adventure as group finding it fitting to conclude long running show with those who started everything.

Also to be fair,just because you didn't liked way in which certain group functioned doesn't mean you will be displeased with them again.
If original trio reunited again since they already know each other being experienced, there would obviously be present different chemistry between them with friendship being taken to a wholr nrw level rekindling relationships from past.

Which would actually be more intriguing and fresh to see imo than monotonous and overused concept; "Ash meets new characters, befriends them traveling for 3 to 4 years , saying goodbye never to be seen again". We saw repeat of this scenery for 5 times already and its not innovative nor exciting way to maintain this series appealing.

I didn't think I would be displeased with BW but I am. I didn't think I would be displeased about the second half of DP but i was. Just because each saga had it's own flaw doesn't mean it was bad. It just means that it needed some work. But to answer the question, most just want Misty to come back and the other half are coming to like Cilan but likes Brock due to the fact that there is no flirter(Perv) on the show anymore.
