Staff Drive and such

So the results of the Mini Staff Drive are going to be released soon. (Not sure on the exact time frame but apparently around a week.)
In advance of the announcement, I wanted to say a few things:
1) There will be more rejected applications than successful applications. There were a lot of applications for all three sections. None of the sections are taking more than two new mods on. Do not feel that you have been specifically targeted or that you are a failure. It was very competitive and no one who applied should feel inadequate for not having made into on to the team. You're in good company.
2) This isn't your last chance. Forum-wide staff drives tend to happen on a roughly annual basis. Being rejected now does not mean you'll be rejected next time. I was rejected the first time I applied and now I'm an Administrator. Hell, Musashi was rejected the first time she applied and then made it to Head Admin within a year once she was!
3) Being staff isn't the be all and end all. Every single staff drive, I feel there are some applications that were submitted just because those particular users want to be part of the "cool crew" or some such rubbish. You can be a widely recognised and respected user without being on staff. You can contribute and give back to your forum without being staff. Most of all, you can have a damn good time on the Forums without being on staff. I'm not trying to dissuade people from applying here but after Staff Drives I always see people who are torn apart by the fact that they don't get in. I was a regular user here for two and a half years before becoming staff and I think there are some things that are actually preferable about not being on staff (though I'm not going to get into them). Always value what you have now. Too often people don't value what they've got until it's gone.
