  1. "Horrible Bosses" is pretty damn not horrible.

    by , 14th July 2011 at 12:23 AM (Pop-Pop in the Attic: in 3D)

    Well here’s a movie I didn’t expect to love.

Horrible Bosses isn’t just good, it’s great. Like, could-maybe-crack-my-top-five-at-the-end-of-the-year great. It’s at least guaranteed a spot in the Top Ten.

Sorta kinda like an uber-raunchy Strangers on a Train (a fact the movie directly references, in one of the funniest exchanges in the flick, which I won’t spoil), Horrible ...
  2. YeOldeJacob's Mini-Reviews - Green Lantern

    by , 18th June 2011 at 11:08 AM (Pop-Pop in the Attic: in 3D)

So... er... why exactly is this movie bad, guys? Because I'm lost. I didn't see one of the worst movies of the year on par with Batman and Robin or Catwoman. I saw a really fun, really slick comic book movie that was happy just being a comic book movie. Apparantly there is something wrong with that now.

I've read/heard a lot of complaints regarding how stale the scenes on Earth are compared to the ...

  3. YeOldeJacob's Mini-Reviews - X-Men: First Class

    by , 3rd June 2011 at 11:28 PM (Pop-Pop in the Attic: in 3D)
In an attempt to make my movie reviews a bit more accessible, most of them will be taking on a new format; shorter, more conversational, and less technical. So let's get started:

X-Men: First Class did something no piece of X-Men media has ever done; it got me to give a shit about X-Men.

I’m gonna jump right to the obvious hyperbole; when it comes to super hero movies, First Class is, in fact, ...

  4. Jacob's Xmas Gift to You; His 10 Favorite Films of 2010

    by , 25th December 2010 at 06:15 PM (Pop-Pop in the Attic: in 3D)
Ain't I an egotistical fuck? My gift to you is a list of my favorite films, and that means this is the definitive list of flicks that were good in 2010. Because, you know, I'm always right.

But being right doen't pay much, so there were many flicks I didn't get a chance to see. I live about an hour-and-a-half from the closest art theater, so most limited releases are out of the question until DVD each year. So while you are reading my list, if you find yourself thinking "Where ...

  5. Scott Pilgrim vs. His Own Fanbase

    by , 10th December 2010 at 05:46 PM (Pop-Pop in the Attic: in 3D)
When Scott Pilgrim vs. The World released in theaters, I didn't see it. I typically have a problem separating a film from its fanbase, especially if that means I have to go see that film with that fanbase. Even when the majority of the flick's fanbase straight-up doesn't get the material, I usually play it safe and wait for DVD.

You see, I hadn't (and still haven't) read the comics behind Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, so my only real ability to judge what this film was going to be ...
