The pokeathlon is an addictive piece of genius

Bought a 3DS back in september and so I thought it would be good to buy some of the Pokemon games and get my self up to date. Couldn't find HG nor SS new, so I patiently waited till I found a used one, which was recently. Got no pokewalker thanks to the hacks who were selling it, a major chain store who is the only one with a proper used game corner, but who cares. The biggest credits go to that devil minigame that is the Pokeathlon, one of the most rewarding Pokegames ever. Getting through the rooms is one thing, but then when you realize what those crowns are for, it just gets downright mean. I swept casually through all the events, with some regard to those trophies, but those crowns, man do they test you to your limit. Never have I been stuck for hours trying to complete the contests with pure skill and no luck like I would for the damn Pokeathlon.
Just as a sidenote, did the grinding in Silver suck that much back then? I have an early 40s team on the way to the league, now mid 40s, but I just couldn't go for it anymore. SO MANY WILD GRAVELERS, TOO MUCH TO PROCESS. What made it worse is that I found some event Pokemon, and I fell to the temptation to just screw it, and go for the league with those.
