I'm starting to get pissed off at the series, and hopefully gen 6 will alleviate it

First things first, I love Pokemon. I love the worlds it builds, I love the things it does as a game, and more importantly Pokemon being one of the last bastions of turn based RPGs is a god send. I cannot imagine Pokemon with any other sort of battle engine. However, story wise its falling flat on its face lately. Now I wouldn't mind it much, seeing as its never been story centric, but with the advent of gen 5 there have been 2 major flaws to the Unova mythos that were not so apparent in gen 4, and hell even in gen 3: The Anime and the Manga. While the manga has always offered a story and mythos somewhat based on the games and gave a personality different to those of the games, in Gen 5 the massive amount of detail given to N and the Plasma family so far has been astounding. I just love it. Thing is, the Anime is now doing the same thing. This is were things get a bit sticky for me. The anime in no way should provide a meaningful background story for not only the central antagonist, but also several NPC's that should be considered major which trumps the games. I am sorry but this is where I draw the line. I have no problem with an Anime being deep and carefully thought out, but an Anime that is based on a game series and not the other way around should not be superior to the games. This is wholly on Gamefreak's part, and its getting really fucking annoying. Pokemon, as I said is a game series first and foremost. I have never and will never expect the game's story to play second fiddle to the Anime's story, which usually draws from it and rarely expands itself. This is were I get to gen 6. I hope to god that if Gamefreak does give us another story driven plot that should have a lot of back story and non game era stuff, it should expand it. I personally do not want another N fiasco, nor do I want meaningless characters like the goddesses to be in the game, only to be outshined by their anime counterparts. Could the anime counterparts be shit? Sure! But they're shit with some fucking meaning to their existence, and not shit with no shit to back it up. Fucking fix this GF, cause you know you have a problem when you're marketing shell has more fucking interesting characters then your own fucking games.

    I agree with you on all of this, the franchise almost always puts the anime in front of the games, which annoys me, consider that I also think the Pokemon games are far better than the anime, and the anime doesn't expand from that at all, it only draws aspects from the games. In fact, often, the anime "flanderizes" characters and concepts from the games and often reduces them to a bare minimum, if not at all. It's either that or expands on it in a bad way or incorrectly.

    Trust me when I say that it's not that easy to adapt something to another medium, and the Pokemon anime has proven that many times in the past.

    100% agreed the Anime is stronger than the games story it always has been.

    But if the Anime is first in Gen 5 then the films are definatly third.

    The b/W victini film was awful and the Keldeo film wasnt great either. Hopefully the Mewtwo/Genesect film will be decent.

    As for Gen6 with the 3ds ability to get addons and memory capacity I could easily see game freaks doing some DLC content which followed the anime stories etc. Expect good things in Gen 6 :D

    @Codface; You didn't get what I was trying to say. While the Anime has a stronger story, it shouldn't fulfill certain story portions that the games should. It should be like the manga which has the same characters but wholly different takes on them. While the anime as I'm saying is taking characters but not giving them totally different takes but giving us more background then the games are and creating an even better canon then what we're being offered. At least with gen 4 it was Cyrus being crazy with a little hunter J, now its a totally awesome action N, background for his relationship with his father, personalities for the twins, when we got squat on them in-game, and god know's what else. If they touch upon the sages, and give them character as well, I just dunno how I'll feel about it. Giving us what the games should for characters is not the way the franchise should go in other words.
