For the most part it’s been fun. A little crazy and even at time annoying, but what would a fandom be if it didn’t drive you crazy from time to time. LOL. Anyway, it’s been a fun year and I look forward to the next year.

The one criticism I didn’t care for was the comparison to Super Mario Galaxy. This game isn’t the successor to Super Mario Galaxy; it’s the successor to New Super Mario Bros. Just like Super Mario Galaxy 2 will be the true successor to Super Mario Galaxy. It’s really an as the cliché goes, “An Apples to Oranges comparison”. Still, good review overall and I can’t wait for the game’s release this Sunday.

The Soulcailbur series has been one of Namco Bandai’s most popular franchise’s ever since the original Soulcalibur arcade game was ported to the Sega Dreamcast. The series second iteration had the unique gimmick of giving each version their own exclusive guest fighter. No surprise that the Nintendo GameCube version was the most well-received since it included Link from the Legend of Zelda series.

When Soulcalibur IV was released, it included characters from the Star Wars Universe as guest fighters. It was released only for the Xbox 360 and PS3. What did the Nintendo Wii get? The crappy spin-off game, Soulcalibur Legends.

A few months ago, the PSP got a Soulcalibur IV spin-off fighter: Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny, which included fan favorite Sony character: Kratos from the God of War franchise.

It’s about time that a real Soulcalibur game come to the Wii. Make it like Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny, where it’s a spin-off fighter of Soulcalibur IV. Besides, including the entire cast of fighters from Soulcalibur IV, minus the Star Wars characters (which is 26), Broken Destiny’s Dampierre, an original new fighter for the game, and the grand return of Link.

It would be great to have Link come back to Soulcalibur in a new fighter for the Wii with his Twilight Princess design, in fact why stop there. Include Princess Zelda with her Twilight Princess sword , and un due the mistake made in Brawl and have Ganondorf with his sword (even Sakurai-san made fun of it in Ganondorf’s Brawl page ). Bring back the long missed Team Versus Mode, too and it would be one of the best fighters on the Wii.

Come on, Namco Bandai and Nintendo. Make this happen.

That’s big news since both systems have been know in the past to be on the pricey side and made the Wii seem like a bargain at $249.99, when the Wii was first released back in 2006.

The problem though is that with the current price of the rival high-end versions of the 360 and PS3 now at $299.99; having the Wii still at $249.99 doesn’t seem like such a bargain anymore. Well, it seem like Nintendo is taking noticed as kotaku has first reported: the Wii will now be priced at $199.99 starting Sunday, September 27.

That’s defiantly big news that Nintendo is finally dropping the price of the Wii. It shows that Nintendo is taking the recent price cuts of their rivals seriously. Makes you wonder if Nintendo will have a reveal for its Player Choice for Wii games?

I’m a HUGE Super Mario Bros. Fan. Have been one for a long time. The announcement of Super Mario Galaxy 2, at this year’s E3 brought a lot of joy for me because I had so much fun playing the original, but still I did have some problems with the original Galaxy that (hopefully) Nintendo will fix in the sequel when it comes out in 2010.

1. The Life System

Traditionally, when you earn extra lives and then save the game you keep them. Not in Super Mario Galaxy, where if say in a play through you have 25-28 Lives. Sorry, but they are all gone when you restart the game and back to the basic Four Lives. I really hope that Nintendo doesn’t do that again because it really bothered me when playing Galaxy.

2. The Water Levels

Anyone who has played Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time’s Water Temple knows how hard and frustrating water levels can be. Galaxy’s Water Levels I found to be hard because I feel that the Wiimote didn’t understand what I wanted to do have the time. Maybe Super Mario Galaxy 2 should make the new Motion Plus a requirement to play. It could solve the Water Level issue.

3. Spring Mario

Let’s put it this way. I hate Spring Mario!!! Seriously, it must have been the Worst Mario Power-Up Ever! Any level that involved Spring Mario easily became 10x’s harder and think about: Raccoon Mario, Tanooki Mario, Cape Mario. These are some of the most iconic Mario Power-Ups, but have never made return appearances, but Spring Mario is allowed to come back. I really hope it doesn’t.

4. Fire Mario

In Super Mario Galaxy, Fire Mario made it’s long overdue debut in 3-D. Too bad that you can only be Fire Mario for what. . .maybe 30 seconds, if that. I know that 3-D Mario games are different from 2-D, but is it really wrong to allow Mario to be Fire Mario for the duration of the mission that he’s on? I don’t think so.

5. Better Two-Player Mode

Having a Second Player be a helper during the gameplay is okay, but what I would really like is having a Mario vs. Luigi mode similar to what New Super Mario Bros. for the DS.

If you think about it. There really haven’t been that many Adaptations of Nintendo Characters in other media. Animation especially. I mean as Pokémon Fans we have been both very fortune and lucky that for 11 years (12 in Japan) and counting that there has been a Pokémon cartoon to watch.

I mean, look at the other Nintendo properties. Despite their popularity there have been very few cartoons about them.

Metriod?

Never.

Although to be honest if there ever were a Metriod cartoon. I would prefer it to be a movie or mini-series. I don’t know about it being an on-going series.

Super Mario Bros. hasn’t had a cartoon series in 18 years. Let me repeat SUPER MARIO BROS. HASN’T HAD A CARTOON SERIES IN 18 YEARS. Think about it. Since then Mario’s old rival Sonic the Hedgehog has had four different animated series in that time. Since that time a lot of characters from the Super Mario Bros. Universe have made their debut since the last Mario cartoon and thus have never been in animated form. Wario, Toadsworth, King Boo, Toadette, Bowser Jr., and many others didn’t exist 18 years ago.

Does anyone else find that odd?

Maybe it has to do with the Super Mario Bros. Live-Action Movie. Maybe. . .Just maybe Nintendo was so embarrassed by that movie that must have put a ban on any future Mario Adaptations.

And considering how awful both the animated series of Donkey Kong Country and Kirby: Right Back At Ya! were maybe it’s a good thing there haven’t been more Nintendo cartoons.

Supposedly, the game will focus on the origins of the Master Sword and based on the promotional photo without a single video game screenshot to back up my theory that this game will be much like Twilight Princess in terms of tone, story, and graphics.

That’s not the case with the DS Zelda games where Phantom Hourglass and the year-end planned release for Spirit Tracks feature a more cartoony style.

It seems (to me at least) that with the uproar over the initial release of The Wind Waker for the GameCube that fans cried out for a more “traditional” looking Zelda game and got it with Twilight Princess, but yet some fans both enjoyed (and even) preferred The Wind Waker. Instead of dividing the fanbase over the game’s appearance again, it looks like Nintendo decided to make the Wii, the home for the “traditional” Zelda, while the DS will be the home of the “cartoony” Zelda.

Or at least that’s what it looks like to me.

It’s the sequel to the hugely popular and beloved 1989 Arcade beat –em up classic: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Arcade Game.

Since that game was released on Xbox Live Arcade back in 2007, it’s been a huge hit, but Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time: Re-Shelled it’s just a simple port of Turtles in Time (hence the Re-Shelled part of the title). The graphics have been completely over-hauled giving the game a cool 2.5-D graphics look. I didn’t know what to think of it at first because as both a huge fan of the Ninja Turtles and the classic early 1990’s Konami beat -em up games. I didn’t know that I wanted the game to be messed with, but after seeing the screenshots for the game. I changed my mind.
Here’s a sampling:

Yeah that’s right Asbestos Man. Keep in mind though that this is from the 1960’s long before the EPA banned asbestos. So why am I mentioning a long forgotten (and likely) one-shot Marvel Villain from the 1960’s.

Well, it’s because in recent years comic books have bought back ideas and concepts from that 1960’s era (or Silver Age) and most of the time give it a new twist and. . . I don’t know, but I almost would love to see a current comic book writer revive Asbestos Man and try and explain him in the modern era of comics.

To be honest I don’t get it. I know that Eidos (the England based publisher that is best known for the Tomb Raider franchise) has been on some hard times and I heard of the rumor of Square Enix buying Eidos since in late 2008, but I still don’t get it.

I know that Square Enix has been trying to expand on the video games that they sell and not be known solely as the publisher of RPGs (which is why Square Enix bought Taito in 2005, a publisher known for their arcade titles, most famously Space Invaders).

At least, Tatio was a Japanese company. I know that Square Enix try to buy Tecmo (best known for Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden), but that didn’t work out. It’s just that Eidos really doesn’t have that many desirable video game franchises outside of Tomb Raider and most of Eidos games have historically been games that have bad camera controls or just plain bad and boring gameplay.

Is Square Enix that desperate to be more competitive in the video game market that they are willing to buy any publisher, even if it’s Eidos?

Again, I just don’t get it?

There has been a lot of debate on the forums about Gen V lately, in terms of both the games and anime. With all the speculation it made me think about the release dates between generations to help give me a better idea of when is the earliest date we should see Gen V based on the Japanese and International release dates.

Gen I: Japan, 1996
International, 1998

Gen II: Japan, 1999
International, 2000

Gap between Gens: Three Years

Gen III: Japan, 2002
International, 2003

Gap between Gens: Three Years

Gen IV: Japan, 2006
International, 2007

Gap between Gens: Four Years

So based on this. The gap between Generations lasted anywhere between 3-4 years; which means that Generation V should come out in Japan around the year 2010 (which is four years, but with the lack of any Gen V hints it seems that 2011 is going to be the safer bet).

Still, though there is another reason that can be blamed about the speculation and (to a degree) impatient-ness as to why there is no Gen V news yet and for me there is one big reason.

I blame Munchlax.

Yes, I do blame Snorlax’s baby evolution because most fans knew of its existence before the release of Movie 7 in Japan, when Gen III was release just over a year internationally. We knew that Gen IV was around the corner and the lack of info for Gen V can seem frustrating at times.

Generation V is coming.

It’s just that we don’t know when.

Still, it bothers me that so little new info is going on at Nintendo. I mean, as a loyal Nintendo fan for 20 years now, I know that Nintendo can be very low key and secretive when it comes to their new games, but they have gone to new extreme to remain hush hush with their newest projects. I mean look at the games we know of that are being publish by Nintendo this year of the Wii and DS, so far.

Wii: Mario Power Tennis (re-release of the 2004 GCN game with Wiimote controls)
Pikmin (re-release of the 2001 GCN game with Wiimote controls)
Punch-Out!!! 3
Wii Sports Resort

DS: Pokémon Platinum (U.S. release)
Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon
Mario and Luigi RPG 3 (working title)

Is that it?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

I mean where is the hints of the next Legend of Zelda?

Or Mario?

Or Pikmin 3?

What about Pokémon Gen 5?

What’s going on with those games?

Will we even see them or happen?

I know that Super Smash Bros. Brawl may have been over-hyped (though personally I like visiting Nintendo’s site to find out about the latest updates).

Plus, you can say that part of the problem is that most of the big Nintendo franchise have been release for the Wii and DS, but still I would like to at least have a hint of what’s next at Nintendo?
