I'm going to revive this series because I'm on spring break and with the international B/W release, I feel like I am solid as far as the generational shift goes. I have no idea what kind of order I was going in, but I don't care. I'm going to review a couple of Pokemon that deserve reviews. :D
50 HP / 75 Atk / 75 Def / 65 SpA / 65 SpD / 50 Speed
Lepardas has bad stats? Fuck, not compared to these. Good fucking christ these are horrible. I used Sableye a grand total of once (in a Pokemon XD run) and while I had a ton of fun using it, it still had a bit of trouble. I never would have thought of using this in a competitive context...
...until now. Sableye is a perfect example of fantastical placement of Mischievous Heart (called Prankster in the international release). With just two moves (WoW and Recover) and a brand new ability that gives those two moves priority, Sableye has carved for itself a way out of the depths of NU and a real chance of being one of the scariest new threat to all non-Fire type physical sweepers. To prevent itself from being entirely worthless against Fire-types, you can run Taunt. Although not a priority move, Trickery/Foul Play can be used to defeat V-Generate Victini. It's a neat offensive option and alternative to Night Shade should you not be a fan of that. Is Sableye potentially overhyped? Yes and no. Only time will tell, but I'm just glad that such a cool little Pokemon is finally competitively viable. Sableye, you've gone a long way, feel proud of yourself!
92 HP / 105 Atk / 90 Def / 125 SpA / 90 SpD / 98 Speed
I've always been of the opinion that special Dragons are better than physical Dragons because Draco Meteor is far more easily spammable than Outrage and thus racks up more damage. For this reason, Scarf Sazandora has racked up the most kills for me than any other gen V Pokemon. At first, I was turned off by the typing and bad speed....I thought "hey, this guy is pretty fucked by the musketeers, other Dragons, and a shitload of other threats faster than it". How wrong I was. Yes, it has lots of common weaknesses, but they should be no issue if you play well. Slap on a Scarf to take care of that middling speed, lay down a few entry hazards, and you have one of the best revenge killer/cleaner in the game. Specs Draco Meteor is fun if you just want to do ridiculous damage. I prefer this to the Latis mostly because there's less liability involved: no Pursuit weakness, no panicking when Tar comes out, and you don't have to use lol HP Fire as your main offense against Steel types. That last point is EXTREMELY important, and I really don't understand the "it's an inferior Lati@s" camp on that basis.
The design is also one of the best for any Pokemon, ever. It's in its name....hydra + dragon? Fucking win. Every single stage looks awesome, from the cute but sinister blindness of Monozu, the vicious, conflicted Jiheddo, to the fucking awesome hydra dragon with two fucking heads for arms.
I think I whored out this Pokemon too much, but I'm very pleased with its performance. It will likely be a top tier OU this generation, so get in with the game: play smart, hit hard, and let this menacing hydra dragon kick ass and bring victory!
That's all for now....I have a big draft in my blog for more Pokemon but writer's block and a lack of imagination are preventing that from materializing. I might come out with another part before spring break ends. So until next time, best of luck in your battles!
