As you pointed out, due to the censor that prevents Pokemon with offensive nicknames being traded on the Global Trade Station, an English language Cofagrigus cannot be traded without a nickname.
Yeah. TPCi INTENTIONALLY chose a name that was "offensive" to their censors. Out of all the names they could have made up, they knowingly chose that one....

I'm going to be honest and say that I hate the localized names this gen and will probably continue to use Japanese names, and this is ultimate proof of that.

Yes, because TPCi will be so sad that you won't use their names, that they'll immediately go and fix everything.

They'll build a fix soon, but wow, they are inept. The names have grown on me, though.

I've already responded to this over on tumblr but in short, this does show that they didn't entirely think the name through or that the people making the names didn't actually know there would be a filter (which would show a lack of communication). Neither of those are good points for the localization team.

I didn't think Cofagrigus was a bad name (especially not just because it has a bad word embedded).

I do agree there are bad names out there (Druddigon, I'm looking at you!), but that doesn't still make it any more logical for anyone to refuse to use the official English names.

Why is it such an objectionable thing to not use the English names? I don't like them but I'm not forcing it down other people's throats. It's my personal preference, and that's that.

It blocked it because it was CoFAGrigus. It's not just TPCi too

^ We all know that. Still, blocking that name is a moot point.

It makes stuff exceedingly confusing when someone is speaking about a Pendra or a Ononokus, at least when that someone else doesn't know the Japanese names. They are Japanese names, they should be used in Japanese context only now that those aren't the only available names.

I still don't know most of the names in either Japanese or English, so I'm perma-confused.

I do know what Cofagrigus is... At least...
