Stressful week && school tournament rules announced

Rate this Entry
An exam tomorrow, quiz Thursday, and tourney on Sunday. I'm a little stressed but I hope I can do it.

The tournament will be GS cup rules (aka VGC rules), with all Smogon ubers banned.

For starters players must use either Pokémon Heart Gold/Soul Silver (this is done so that flat battling can be used) and each individual must bring their own copy of the game and their own DS.

Now onto the rules…
Each match is played using the Pokémon Communication Club Coliseum, found on the top floor of the Pokémon Center in Pokémon HeartGold and Pokémon SoulSilver Versions. The tournament will use the GS Cup rules set, with some additional restrictions.
• Each player uses four Pokémon during the battle, and sends out two Pokémon at a time.
• The Flat Battle rules have an auto-level feature, which sets all Pokémon that are above level 50 down to level 50 for the duration of the battle with the following parameters:
◦ Each Pokémon retains all of the moves that it knew before being auto-leveled
◦ Pokémon that evolve after level 50 do not devolve when auto-leveled
◦ Pokémon below level 50 remain at their actual level rather than being auto-leveled up to level 50 for the battle
◦ The Pokémon's stats are adjusted to what its level 50 stats would be
• A player's team may not contain two Pokémon with the same National Pokédex number.
• Each Pokémon on a player's team may use held items, though no two Pokémon may hold the same item during battle. Allowed items include held items from Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver Versions as well as from earlier video games, including Berries 1-64. The Soul Dew item may not be used. (though it wouldn’t be any use b/c latios/latias are banned anyway :p)
• Players may not enter two Pokémon with the same nickname.
• Players may not enter a Pokémon nicknamed with the name of another Pokémon character (for example, a Lucario nicknamed "Spiritomb").
Players found to have inappropriate/offensive Trainer names or Pokémon nicknames, as determined by the event staff, will be disqualified from the event.

This tournament will not allow the use of Ubers. Therefore, the following pokémon are not allowed. (Taken from Smogon)
-Arceus
-Darkrai
-Deoxys (all forms)
-Dialga
-Garchomp
-Giratina (both forms)
-Groudon
-Ho-Oh
-Kyogre
-Latias
-Latios
-Lugia
-Manaphy
-Mew
-Mewtwo
-Palkia
-Rayquaza
-Salamence
-Shaymin-(sky form)
-Wobbuffet
-Wynaut

Only legally caught pokémon will be allowed, and only Pokémon with legal movesets are allowed.

On a general note please don’t try looking for loopholes. I recognize that I probably forgot some obscure nitpicky thing that you could find and ruin the tournament. The point isn’t to find out how to bend the rules, but just to battle and have fun.

If at any point you feel that your opponent is not following the rules please alert a tournament official who will have final jurisdiction. No exceptions.
I went through the Smogon forums and looked at successful VGC 2009 rules, which is closest to what I'll be playing on Sunday. I've decided to use a variation of a cool Rain Dance team used by the winner of the Hyogo tournament, as well as a Smogoner who did alright in the London tournament because it seems effective to me and I already have several of the Pokemon in it (or they're incredibly simple to RNG abuse). I do not know the EV spreads of any of them, so it'll be my own good judgment on that. Here's my gameplan (too lazy for sprites and explanations):

LEADS:
Jolteon @ Focus Sash
Timid nature
EVs: apparently the Hyogo finalist used a defensive spread? idek, probably 252 SpA / 252 Speed
~ Rain Dance
~ Protect
~ Thunder
~ Hidden Power Ice

Ludicolo @ Lum Berry
Swift Swim
Modest nature
EVs: absolutely no clue, probably 252 SpA/252 Speed as well
~ Protect
~ Fake out
~ Hydro Pump
~ Energy Ball

BACK-UPS:
Kingdra @ White Herb / Life Orb
Swift Swim
Modest nature
EVs: 252 SpA / 252 Speed
~ Protect
~ Hydro Pump
~ Draco Meteor / Dragon Pulse
~ Toxic

Slash-its is where Havak and the Hyogo finalist differ; help appreciated
Toxic is for Shedinja btw

Metagross @ Shuca Berry
Adamant nature
EVs: 252 Atk, no idea if the other 252 should go to Speed or HP
~ Protect
~ Bullet Punch
~ Meteor Mash
~ Explosion

Kabutops @ Chesto Berry
Swift Swim
Adamant nature
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Speed
~ X-Scissor
~ Waterfall
~ Rock Slide
~ Aqua Jet

Rotom-W @ Kasib Berry / Life Orb
Timid
EVs: 252 SpA / 252 Speed
~ Thunder
~ Hydro Pump
~ Shadow Ball
~ Protect / Discharge / Rain Dance

Rotom-W is the only wholly original addition of mine, these are local battles only against other HG/SS games so I think it'll work. Kasib is the Ghost resist berry

Sadly, I rely on a lot of low accuracy moves like Hydro Pump and Toxic for Sheddy. I think this will screw me over, like it did Havak, but idk. The best I can come up with. Any and all help with slashits, which 2 of the back-ups should be my priority, and whatnot is appreciated.

EDIT;; I forgot Celebi and Shaymin are legal unlike 2009 VGCs and they'll throw a monkey wrench into my team. Fuck

How many people are in this tournament? If there's a lot of people in it then there's a higher chance of battling a different weather team.

Maybe have a strategy to beat them =)
