"How would you help increase traffic to the forum you wish to moderate?"

As part of Bulbagarden staff I have seen a few staff drives. Sometimes Anime was hiring and sometimes it wasn't but for every section this question would make me smile if a certain thing wasn't said. That thing is:
"I would link to the forum in my signature."
I've always found this answer utterly baffling. Let's break it down a bit with an example.
I am applying for the Pokémon Anime section, which is where I spend most of my time on Bulba and if not, will likely be where I spend most of my time if I was modded there. I want to increase activity and so I will put the link in my signature. This is going to increase activity because those in the Anime section will be the ones who see my sig the most often and so will now be aware that we have an Anime section.
Note the sarcasm there. You're not going to increase activity because everyone who sees your sig knows about the place already. It wastes your already limited space in your signature and it's also really redundant. We have a forum index that advertises all our forums and you know what, it has a description about them and shows all the subforums that belong to the place. Does linking to the forum in your signature have those? No!
Essentially, putting a link to the forum in your signature is the same as having no ideas for increasing activity and you're better off being honest and saying you have none.
/rant over.
