Welcome back! Today we cover Chapter 7, which includes Red's first Gym Battle, in which it appears he is at something of a disadvantage. Can Red pull out a win? Let's see!
Chapter 7: Red's Rattata Run
Yeah, Red's basically winging it at the moment. Using Quick Attack to turn Geodude's Defense Curl against it was something he made up on the spot, and he's lucky it worked.
Now Red's switching up, bringing in Charmander to lower Geodude's Attack and deal some light damage with Ember. Another stroke of luck- Ember burned it. Oh, and did I mention the training in the previous chapter actually paid off? Rattata learned Water Gun.
Another thing about Orange? Jokes at inappropriate moments. Like that "I can't believe it's not butter" deal.
And Red's run of beginner's luck culminates in Charmander evolving into Charmeleon and learning Flamethrower, which it then proceeds to use to KO Rhyhorn, earning Red the win.
Ah, now here we learn of Moon Canyon, the Tankoan counterpart to Mt. Moon. For most landmarks like these, I tried to shoot for the opposite as best as I could. I figured a giant hole in the ground was about as opposite from a huge, tall mountain as one could get, you know?
Wild A appeared! Orange intends to make this Normal/Normal-type (I pronounce A like the letter "a", by the way) the newest member of his team, but when he throws a Poké Ball, A quickly pushes a nearby Spearow into the ball's path, and that is what Orange catches instead. To be honest, when I first planned out the group's teams, my original plan was to have Orange catch that glitch Pokémon that evolves into Spearow at level 9, and have him get his Spearow that way, But the only legible character in its name is Japanese, and I didn't want to make things too confusing for anyone, so I did this instead.
Oh, yeah, and Spearow has no respect for Orange, refuses to follow his orders. Of course, Orange being Orange, this isn't stopping him at all. If he had engaged the Spearow in battle before the capture, it would have obeyed him, though that's not Orange's fault, given that he intended to catch A instead.
And on that note, this chapter comes to a close. Chapter 8 is what we'll cover next time.
