An amusing bias I just noticed around here...

Rate this Entry
So RS Remakes talk is banned until there's more "proof"... lol. Yet the GS Remake thread went on since the 3rd Gen days and was never stopped.

Gotta love the bias around here huh? But perhaps I shouldn't criticize higher-ups decisions here, either. Fun or divergent opinions are not allowed, after all.

Oh well. Just felt like pointing this out for the lulz. Incoming warning? You bet. 8D

The reason remake talk was banned was because the discussion just became a back-and-forth flamewar between the supporters and non-supporters... I wasn't around here during the HGSS days so I can't talk about that, but IMO banning remake talk until we get further proof was the right thing to do.

And we won't infract you for speaking your mind...

Honestly, I'd like to see a ban on any "What's your favourite/least favourite generation" since they end up the same way.

It's really the people who just have to either prove how RS remakes are so obvious or how they are so not possible at all, rather than, you know, actually keeping it a fun discussion and talking about what we want to see added/changed in the remakes.

And when we do start that type of discussion, someone who hasn't read any post in the past 500 pages just has to act like a shining beacon of truth and spoil the fun.

Why can't we just ban that? Why can't we just talk about what we want in it rather than its viability? Why not ban the talk on its viability but allow us to talk about what we want? It annoys the fuck out of me when I'm talking about that and you get a smartass post going 'Well I don't want a remake.' That's nice, we were talking about how they could change the game if it was made. But no, Gen III haters just can't stfu.

Can't we take this issue up to the admins? Yeah, sure GF probably doesn't look on forums, but still, the ban on RSE-remake talk just creates the illusion that no one wants it when people do. If people don't want it, then the thread would just be empty.

I fully support RS remakes. I want them badly. But I agree with the ban. The original thread was scary, an absolute mess. I never fully join debate on games until they are confirmed. Otherwise, it's just arguing back and forth over whether they'll even exist.

I agree with all you said. The problem is clearly common sense, but that's something no Forum rule will be able to fix on people. I'd enjoy some kind of RS Remake discussion, not focusing on their viability. Who says what's viable and what isn't anyway?

Yep, I think it would be nice if there was some kind of agreement. If only people stopped derailing discussion to whether it's likely or not... another thing would be. But yeah, one can only hope.

Yeah, if we're getting stuck up on that kind of technicality, then all speculation on non-existent games should stop, but yet we're allowed to. I for one am glad I have a place to talk about spin-off games I want to see no matter how unlikely (though everyone seems to just want more of the same), so why can't I have that same privilege with RSE remakes? They're no where near as unrealistic as old spin-offs being remade for the 3DS (and not just re-released on the Virtual Console) yet no one seems to be derailing that thread. Really, the closest thing to 'derailing' on it is someone saying how they'd much rather people focused on new spin-offs for the system rather than going on about how unrealistic the notion of spin-offs being remade is.

Though, I guess that goes hand in hand with the lack if interest side games get. But wow, how lucky for the side games that people who aren't interested in/don't like them stay the fuck away from those discussions while people who aren't interested or dislike RSE and the idea of another remake can't shut the fuck up and ruin it for the people who do want to talk about the possibilities.

I mean yeah, I loved RSE, but I do have some problems with how certain things were handled, and I would love to talk about how those things could be fixed in a remake.

You're a mod in that forum, so why can't we just ban that kind of talk? Why prevent people who actually want an RS remake from talking peacefully about what they want to see in that game or what they want fixed from the old ones? Or if they liked the games but don't want remakes, why they don't want remakes rather than preach about how they're so right that remakes won't happen.

Its not like its any more impossible than banning talk about Aloe's 'racist' inspirations. We banned discussion on that specific topic about Aloe, but we didn't ban Aloe talk completely. So what's the deal? What's with this differential treatment with RSE-remakes?

The matter is being discussed. However, should it ever be allowed again, it'd probably be outside my zone of influence.

I too had noticed the comparatively unfair treatment of gen III remake topics. I don't think it's so much that the mods are biased but more that they had to play referee to the mass of back and forth in the years up until HeartGold and SoulSilver were confirmed.

I do agree that stopping all gen III remake topics is not the way to go, a thread speculating on a third version to HG/SS was allowed to run its course for 6 months, right up until Gen V was announced. That was a topic with no proof, and it was at least equally contentious, if not more, than the Gen III remake thread.

I am glad to hear the matter is being discussed. It would be nice to see a thread for speculation and not debates/flamewars over the viability.
