What a difference 10 years can make for the anime

10 years ago today I was reading Japanese spoilers online about Ash's Charizard and Squirtle coming back and Ash finally having a battle with Gary in the Johto league, something I waited for, for years. At the time I was a huge fanboy of Ash's Kanto starters and was happy they reunited, and I couldn't believe the tedious Johto saga was finally ending.

Also at that time we had that first AG cast poster leaked that showed Ash/Brock in Hoenn clothes, May, Max, Prof. Birch and the Hoenn starters over their heads. And there was no Misty, making it obvious she was leaving the show. That was back in fucking 2002.

And now here I am, 10 years later in 2012...and we're sitting here 3 generations later watching Ash with no old travel companions, about to enter the Unova league, and with a big Giovanni/TR showdown apparently coming to a close.

Goddamn. Time really does fly. What a difference 10 years can make.

I share same sentiment about this, can't believe how much time passed since pokemon started introducing us to its world. And looking back is sad how many great things which molded and represented show back in day are long gone now, like they never existed.

From older recurring pokemon, previous companions like Misty, May or Max with anime nowadays serving as nothing more than tool to promote new games. It used to be tool before too, but it had at least sense of progression with story going forward. there weren't restarts and revamps at start of every new generation and past and older characters still existed within timeline.

But still despite all its flaws anime has that carefree humor and entertainment factor which keeps you hooked on it still watching it on consistent basis. So i congrats writers, because they know how to keep you interested doing something right and since i grew up with pokemon im interested in finding out how will Ash's and stories of all past companions end up (assuming that day ever comes) .

It hasn't changed all that much though. Brock has only just left and Pikachu is still around. They have even given Ash a lot of his original (Kanto) personality back and he's back to travelling with a male and female who have pretty loose goals.

Also, while I think that TR could leave for good, I still find it unlikely.

As long as Ash is still aroiund I'm sure you all will get to see your precious characters again. But seriously, I'm fine with the way things are.
