I spent this morning working on my random Pokemon sketches--the ones where I draw Pokemon as if I had come up with them...uh...you'll catch on.

Today's were three of my all-time favorite Pokemon: Jynx, Electabuzz, and Magmar.

I know Jynx isn't a Ghost-type, but I think she looks better as a spirit. Also, I can't explain the drool. All I can say is, looking at this now, I'm a little creeped out. I guess that was my intention, but still...

Electabuzz is my favorite Pokemon, which means he's basically my least-favorite to draw.

So there we go. Comments are always appreciated.

Dunno, it's kinda funny to me. Almost like because I was gone for a month I'd forget how to use a forum. You mean this is a place where I can answer questions and engage in conversations? I'm fairly certain it's a bit like riding a bike: you don't forget it too easily.

Of course, one can argue I've forgotten how blogs work, because there's no way that this is remotely interesting to anyone. Ah, complaining about how uninteresting I am...

Why? Because the Muppet fan in me remembers that Season One of Sesame Street way back in the 70s had a round blue character named "Professor Hastings" who did nothing but lecture, and bore himself to sleep while talking. So now I'm not going to be able to look at him without thinking of those sketches.

Oh, and Team Dim Sun looks oddly happy in their picture. Like, if it weren't for the fact that they were wearing black and violet, I'd think they were friendly NPCs. Dunno, that's just me. Not to mention the fact that their name sounds more like a tasty dumpling than villains. But hey, I'm not going to complain about American names...

Pikmin 3 Musings

Well, I don't think I have to say how terrible Nintendo's E3 convention was, because I'm sure it's old news by now. "Blah blah blah, puppies are cute," and all, y'know. But for me, Miyamoto almost saved it at the end by announcing, shortly, that he's working on Pikmin 3.

Pikmin 2 was one of my favorite games of all time, so it goes without saying that I'm hotly anticipating this title. I figured, as long as I have this blog, I might as well make a list of the things I'm hoping are present. Y'know, taking advantage of this venue.

1. Expanded Multiplayer: Pikmin 2's versus mode was honestly, my hands-down favorite multiplayer game on Gamecube. But it was unfortunately only 2 players. I'd like to see a 4-player mode created, with obviously larger stages to accommodate for the extra 'min. Other than that, I don't think I would change much else...except maybe adding some additional, albeit optional gametypes to the typical "Capture the <s>Flag</s> Marble." I don't know how I feel about online play for this, but it could work.

2. Plot: I think, though this series can work without a plot, there's no reason for it to lack one. I have some ideas, but most are a little cliched. I suspect Nintendo will either run with some sort of evil rival to Hocotate Freight, with a sort of Wario-esque Olimar doppelganger, or some sort of leader to the Pikmin, like a king. It never made sense to me how the Pikmin rely so much on a leader, but don't actually have one when Olimar and Louie are at home. Knowing the recent trend in movies, I wouldn't be surprised if this game had an environmental message, and I'd like to see humans take a larger role than just leaving junk in various holes throughout the world.

3. More levels: Pikmin 2 had 3 regular levels, and one that could only be accessed after clearing the game (Wistful Wild). Though these levels were enormous, very clever, and contained many dungeons, I don't think it would hurt if the next game had 5 or 6, especially because Wii discs have more room for things like that. Still, I'd rather have fewer levels that are equally expansive than a dozen small areas.

4. Some Things Remain the Same: Though I love stylized graphics, I think Pikmin 3 should keep the same "as-realistic-as-Nintendo-can-reasonably-get" art style. The game would lose something if the Pikmin's world didn't look a lot like ours (since, y'know, it kinda is). I also don't want to see simplified game mechanics, because I think that might hurt the game's depth.

I'm wondering what other Pikmin Nintendo will add (because no doubt they'll throw some in). I'd like to see the multipurpose Bulbmin have a larger role than just appearing in a handful of dungeons. I speculate we'll get a Pikmin with some sort of flight ability (though the Yellow Pikmin can be thrown very high), and perhaps a new color (orange?) that'll have the old bomb-rock ability of the Yellow Pikmin.

Anyway, I am very excited about this. Glad to see Nintendo cares, even if they don't seem to care very much.
