That awkward moment

When you look back at your old art from about 5 years ago
and realize that you haven't improved at all
and may have gotten even worse.

    Pics or it didn't happen.

...I was actually being sort of serious with that. Could you provide a visual comparison of some kind?

    I think you have.

But maybe you feel you can't improve on perfection. ^_^

Well, that's alright. You can always pick up some other hobby, like bocce or sheep wrestling.

What is "again love" and why would someone bake it?

@Meron ; Thanks It's not really by that much though...If only my growth was linear...

@Gotpika ; I used to harbor a link to my deviantart in my sig before I got sick of it and hid it. I also post on the blogs here regarding my art. I don't update as frequently as I used to, though my current sig set is drawn by me.

And gif making has nothing to do with artistic ability >_>'

    @Hypersonic ; 2011 ; 2007
My anatomy is still wonky, my coloring is kinda...idk, plain, and I still don't have a distinctive style. Granted, I spent more time on the latter, but it's just sad that there's no significant improvement with that amount of time.

    @Karamazov ; I'm not flattered, sorry.

@GatoRage ; Not after I've spent so much time, money and tears over this hobby ;_; and I'm afraid of sheep

@Ma†erialGirl McQüeen ; I would if I had the money, time and room to store my food XD /doesn't want to ask parents for funds

Also, I don't mean to sound like a whiny, attention-seeking bitch (and I'm sorry if I come off that way). It's just really frustrating for me, since I think I'm losing the passion I once had for my favorite pastime. Art has always been a huge part of my life. It's helped me get through a lot of things. Even if I'm not great at it, I want to at least have the satisfaction that I'm growing and that I'm getting better. Because...the closer I can satisfy my visions for my artwork, the better I feel.

    I know, I sound like a crazy.
    But...it's true.

I dunno...it seems like there's at least some kind of improvement. I wouldn't say you haven't improved at all. :<

Imo, you've only gotten better. ;)

@CommanderPigg Well, how about linking your deviantart more often :3

Your doing exceptional and getting better in art. But, if you really really wanna get better and improve in drastic amounts you should just try to keep an eye on your art more point out flaws you think you have and write them down to remember them next time you draw and fix them. No need to worry ;)

Draw things you haven't drawn before.
That and also re-draw things you have in the past.
    Contrast and compare.
Where do you need to improve?
    Where have you improved?

;3; I know how you feel...
cause I'm that way with my writing.
    xD

Why I say draw things you haven't before is that the only way you'll see that you have improved is if you leave your comfort-zone.
Similar to exercise, writing, etc - to test and improve your work, you need to be able to do things you're not comfortable with. After you draw game characters, every day objects, and get comfortable with them, then go back to re-draw what you did in the past.

I can guarantee you that the re-make of the first thing you drew will show you how much you have improved compared to what you first drew.
    Also look into different mediums.
Try to get back into the fun of drawing.
I'm sure you'd like to pin-up a picture of a character or person you hate most then slam down markers all over their faces.
    ;]

Sorry, forgot this blog existed XD though I wish it didn't skldja;lds

@Hypersonic ; the time between the pictures and the improvements that could have been made are not proportional. I'm not doing all that I can to improve, I know it.

@Gotpika ; even if I know my mistakes (which I usually do), it doesn't mean that I'm skilled enough to fix them XD But I'm always open for critiques on my art.

@EmmySCx ; your advice sounds like something I would give myself X'D I know I should be doing those things...I've done a lot of "redrawings" of old pictures...and in the past, they had a significant difference. It's just now when I do them, I find myself liking the "before" picture more. I guess I should change that. Thank you :3

it's not like i have a shitton of ancient requests to be working on or anything *cough*
