What I've been reading lately

Been doing a lot of reading lately and I figured I'd share some of the better things I've come across. Nothing super new, but nevertheless, all worth checking out IMO:

Just My Type - A Book About Fonts. Fun as a diversion, and you'll learn a thing or two about type along the way. Really worth the read, and it flows extremely fast.

Thinking, Fast and Slow
: Somewhere between pop psychology and a doctoral thesis. Fascinating if you haven't taken a college-level psych course with an eye towards decision-making recently, but covers a lot of the ground that modern psych classes do, so maybe not worth it if that's your path. But Kahneman is a great writer and won an economics Nobel -- so he's clearly worth listening to.

A Song of Ice and Fire -- if you are a fast reader and/or have lots of time to burn. Also, if you don't mind an author who is unsentimental about his characters.

The Art of Fielding - Better literature than all but maybe 2 or 3 books I've read. Writing is sublime, story is very good. A very fast 500 pages.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Disagreements? Discuss!

the a Song of Ice and Fire series is excellent light reading. I've been reading it in-between research papers and it's a great decompressor.

My uncle got me the Fire of Heaven trilogy for Christmas. It's great if you're into fantasy.

I'm reading 'A Song of Ice and Fire' at the moment. Just finished the first book and I'm now starting on 'A Clash of Kings'.

I'll check out FoH -- haven't heard of it, but I can definitely add it to my down-the-line list of things to read. (Currently have Hunger Games and Enemies: A History of the FBI queued up after I finish the Steve Jobs bio).

FoH is pretty cool. The guy who writes it runs an atlas company, so he has political and topographical maps of his fictional lands at the front of each book.
