  1. Blogging HeartGold, Day #14: Kanto is hard!

    by , 29th March 2011 at 12:05 AM (evkl's commentary)
The gym leaders are super-high-leveled compared to the Elite 4 and they're significantly more tactically advanced, too. I think I might need to grind through the E4 a couple of times just to boost my levels into the mid- to upper- 40s so I can compete. Did anyone else encounter this? Sabrina absolutely mopped the floor with me, I had nobody that could drop her Espeon after even one Calm Mind. Of course, nobody's over level 43, but...

  2. Blogging HeartGold, Day 12

I'm really disappointed in Victory Road and the entire pre-E4/Post-Blackthorn experience. I leveled Growlithe up and then pushed through Victory Road. And it was empty. Totally empty. My only competition was Golbat, Onix, Donphan, and Graveler. I know there were a bunch of trainers on the road to Victory Road, but really? I might as well have been on a stroll. The rival battle was especially easy--all I needed were a few advantageous type matchups and it was game over.

    I also ...

  3. Blogging HeartGold, Days 10-11

It's only been two playing days since my last update; I've had a lot of papers and such due IRL between then and now. But I've also made some significant progress in the game. I did the whole Radio Tower thing, which was tedious but not challenging and didn't present much of note. In general, I outleveled everything badly--and that which I didn't badly outlevel (the Execs,) I was able to strategy through without much of a challenge.

I pushed through the Ice Path, which was easier ...

  4. Blogging HeartGold, Days 8-9

    by , 9th February 2011 at 05:59 PM (evkl's commentary)
I skipped a posting day, but the past few days' worth of playing haven't been much to write home about. Mt. Mortar was expansive and it was nice to pick up lots of random items along the way. I'll have to go back with Rock Climb, Waterfall, and a handful of Repels to dig deeper into the cave. But as it stands, everyone was able to level up a little in time for their arrival in Mahogany Town. I worked my way up to the Lake of Rage and caught the Red Gyarados, which was honestly a pretty tough ...

  5. Blogging HeartGold, Day 7

    by , 5th February 2011 at 01:28 PM (evkl's commentary)
I really enjoyed the trip past the Whirl Islands. It was a real challenge--probably the first true challenge I've had other than Morty. It was a grind and my team just doesn't seem well-equipped to deal with some of the tanks I ran into, especially a L.25 wild Tentacruel. (That was tougher than any trainer, which Flaaffy and Bayleef handled easily). As I said, though, I generally enjoyed the trip out there. Cianwood was really quite empty; there was amazingly little to do there. Battling Eusine ...
