Foreign language accents?

Ok, I have no idea how to be able to type accented letters from my laptop, as like most normal laptops, it doesn't have a number pad. I have tried looking up how to do this, and nothing helps! I am using a Dell laptop and Windows 7, if that is relevant information.

Anyone know what to do? I can't very well get my Spanish on like this. And no, I don't want to go to the character map and copy and paste every single time I want an accented letter. I have many of the alt key codes memorized, which made typing in Spanish much easier. I have also tried adjusting the language settings on my laptop, but no dice. Please help if you know how to fix this!

    Well, the only thing I can suggest is to make a text file with all your most needed special characters. Keep that open and copy paste from there, then you won't have to look them up in Character Map.

    Thanks for the suggestion, but that is the same concept as the character map really; I am trying to avoid having to copy and paste anything. I want to just be able to enter a keystroke for those characters as I type... it's clunky I suppose, but way more smooth then having to stop, select the letter you want, and copy and paste it every time.

    It's alt+shift plus something

    Or I'd you're on an iPod, just hold it down

    Eg.
    Æ møøßę øñçė bįt mÿ ßìßtèr

    On Word, you press Ctrl + ' to make á (and others)
    Ctrl + shift + ~ ->ñ
    Ctrl + shift + ^ ->â
    Ctrl + , ->ç
    Ctrl + ` ->à

    I have no idea what's going on, because neither of those suggestions are working for me. :( Thank you anyway though!
