I know it sounds stupid and everyone says Ghost already covers that ground, but I really think it's gonna happen.

There is actually zero evidence to support the existence of a new type. We went through this in Gen V with "Reshiram is white coloured so it must be a light type". We'll have a similar situation in Gen VI.

I'm just gonna save everyone the trouble and post all the types I remember being suggested by more than one person:

Light
Sound
Love
Faerie
Mystic
Magic
Fabric
Alien / Cosmic
Computer-something, technologic or something (generally mentioned alongside porygon)
Glass
Synthetic (sort of a combo of some of the abovely mentioned types)


I think that covers most of them.

I always wanted a Food type. Obviously, Sylveon is going to be Food-type, as it has macaroni- and fettuccine-like things on its body.

I think that covers most of them.

Light -> Just a mix of Electric, Fire and maybe Psychic. Check.
Sound -> This is so covered there is an ability about sound-based moves. Why it can't be a type? Because it's about the source of sound. It can be psychic, electric, metallic, or just normal (growl, etc). Making a sound-type is like making a punch-type. Meaningless.
Love -> Just the idea gives me cancer. What kind of damaging moves could be made with it? So, meaningless.
Faerie -> The problem here is not only "what moves could be made", but "why these moves can't be of another type". Think on any potential Fairy move. Any. And I'll be able to say "that move would be X type"
Mystic -> Could be, but... it's covered partly for Psychic. And partly for Dragon too. Actuallly, I've been thinking for a while that Dragon-type should be renamed to Mystic-type, but that's different to a brand new Mystic-type.
Fabric -> Grass can cover this very whell. Some Bug attacks (say, String Shot for example) too.
Alien -> Same case as Fairy
Technologic -> Aside from Porygon, there's nothing that can't be covered by Electric, Steel or even Psychic
Glass -> Sort of mineral thing. Coverable by Rock, Ground or even Ice.
Synthetic -> Too wide to be a type.
