Hey, my old winter coat still fits! And freaks out my kitten too!

So after my dad had taken out my kitten in the snow (remember he likes it), I was getting sick of the cold. Now, I'm good at enduring cold, but -double digits C...bleh.
So I went into my closet upstairs and tried to find my old winter coat. This was from middle school - it's this thick gold jacket. And I mean thick. The outside (and inside) of it are of the same kind you'd find on snowsuits and stuff. Or something like that. In between must be like asbestos or something equally cold-preventative. So I put it on, and lo - it still fits! Barely, but it fits! And hot damn, I never truly appreciated its badassery until just now. I thought it looked silly, but now I see it looks like something explorers would wear while climbing the Alps or exploring Antarctica or some shit. Really looks good on me.
So I go downstairs to show. My kitten's eating at the time, and as soon as he catches sight of me he freaks out and DASHES under my mother's swivel chair. He was all "who the fuck's this guy and how did he get in without me noticing!?" He just did not recognize me! I don't know if the jacket was masking my scent or if he somehow IDs me based off my clothes and not my face (I should try putting on something I never wear), but he was absolutely positively scared of me for some reason. He did not like the jacket at all. My mother tried to tell him it was okay, pick him up, and take him over to me, but he was having none of it. He seemed to want to get close, but always kept his distance.
Eventually, when I was admiring how good I looked in it again (what can I say - I'm not a narcissist but holy shit it just looked amazing), he'd cautiously approached. Luckily, my socks had holes in them, so I extended one to him and got him to sniff...and that still didn't stop him from backing away even when I was just passing by.
Without further ado, i went out to check. And as expected, the jacket worked beautifully. I think it said it was made in Switzerland or something. Whoever made it though, I didn't even notice the cold - except on my hands. In fact, I probably could've began to sweat in it (in fact, I think I did before). So I come back in, and my kitten's much more accepting, and begins following me around like a lost puppy dog. I go back to my room, put it back in my closet, and he's wondering where I went.
But still, wow. He's never done that before. I think it's because it's so light, he didn't know what to make of it at all. Or he could maybe have not recognized me. Who knows. I'm not an animal expert.
