Fluctuating difficulty, really. Sometimes, it's up to whether or not the RNG decides to flip you off (Piscodemons, Lich 1, Chupon). Sometimes you just need to outheal the opposition (many). And sometimes you can flip them off with spells (many, but especially the last three fiends, Ultros, Deathgaze, and other physical attackers). But besides that, it's not too bad. And hey, to @User_Name; who thought Black Mage might be bad even on GBA/PSP, some guy did a GBA Solo Black Mage Low Level No Class Change No Masamune No Stat Plus No Using Items If You Can Cast The Spell Grind The Ship Game For Elixirs Only Use The Magic FAQ Writer Has Dictated Challenge. Seriously. Who does this.

    What the...?

Also, I believe in the Earth Dungeon, if you go in, then take the Westernmost path, every step you take will trigger a monster. It happened to me on both my playthroughs in GBA. Plus, the path doesn't lead anywhere special, just back to where you started. Can you imagine going only a few steps and getting like 26 Hill Gigases trying to beat you to a pulp?
