This social groups situation. I understand some of the points, but honestly, what the hell?

I especially don't like step 5. That is to say, any group that takes away from Entertainment Inc. will be shut down. Like, what the fuck, man? I don't know which is more unpleasant - the fact that this could lead to a slippery slope, so that anything that could go in any other board would see deletion (Writer's, Artist's, RP, Shipping, Conversational Spam Postcount++ Chat Thread, etc.), or the fact that it's just that one board, making it seem like there's some bias going on. Either way it goes, I don't like how it bodes at all.

The closure of private groups is also horrible, although I suppose we can blame the vB guys for that limitation. I mean, mods can see your blogs you mark as private - and although I don't like that fact (there are some blogs I'd actually want to make, but would rather keep to people on my friends list rather than anyone who went through the staff drive and got an okay), social groups seem like a whole different thing. But I honestly don't think banning them outright is the right way to go. This basically disallows people from making personal clubs for various different things, or again - things they'd rather not place out in public, but don't want to resort to cumbersome methodology to share with who they want to share it with. And I mean, given what I'm about to get into, I really don't see the continuing problem.

Finally, contacting a mod before making a social group. Bureucracy, wonderful! This is going to end horribly. Again, this may be something with can blame the vB guys for, but having to go through a different approval process would be far more ideal. That is to say, you can make the blog, but it won't officially be created until the mod gives approval. But it's not. And tying into the limitation above and the "policing" required (it disturbs me that that was the exact term used...is there some chaos going on I'm unaware of that requires that?), a mod would be part of the group anyway - and ergo there would be no problem with a private group.

I have no problem with the user-drama based things. But as for the rest of it, I know this is the wrong way to go about cleaning them up. If you think about it, how many general discussion groups, private little clubs, and groups that could possibly fit on the boards are there? Oh, and they have to be active too. We have 1800 now. My estimate? At worst, we may not even have 2% of that when all is said and done. If we use the Entertainment Only bit, it doesn't look too much better. Whatever happens, it may very well simply wash the social group section away, instead of cleaning it.

Some people have found their main home/hook in the social groups, just like I have with the blogs here. If the purpose of this was to get people onto the main boards...well, since there's one guy who it had the opposite effect on, there's bound to be more.

Just stuff to keep in mind...whether you're user or staff, deaf or open.

Personally, I think this was one of the more sensible rules. We already do it for some fora when creating new threads (like the RP forum), I don't see the problem with doing for some clubs. Besides, unless you're making a bestiality group or something, I can't see why it wouldn't be approved anyway*.

*Of course, that's assuming it doesn't fly too close to the entertainment forum, but that rule is a different issue.
