The failure of fireworks (and cameras too!)

Today is Canada Day (shut up, it still is in my time zone) - which I nearly forgot about! Every year, my city sets off fireworks if things go right. My position in the city is already sexy from getting access to a mall within walking distance, but I can also see the fireworks from there!
But there were two problems. First off, when I tried to take pictures, my camera again exhibited why it's a total fucking failure by outright refusing to take pictures in low light. Fortunately, a light on the side of the wall proved to be a decent "fuck you too" to that (though I had to be in just the right spot). But then there was another problem...
Do not be deluded by the size of that thing - that's as big and high as they got. I remember about 3-4 years back, they proudly launched the fireworks three times higher than that - and they were much bigger too!
Because of a combination of that, the general shittiness of the camera, occasional handtwitching, and not being in the light properly, I was unable to take very many good pictures. To wit, the last one was when everything was going crazy at the end - it's the only one that got anything. Here's three more assorted ones for your viewing pleasure.
So yeah. A better camera would've been a great start, but the fireworks show disappointed (especially for something I waited outside for around an hour for!). I hate it when time drags on by almost as much as when it flies by.
On a side-note, I need to travel down to the US someday - specifically a state where fireworks are not illegal. I heard Fourth of July fireworks shows are fucking ballistic.
