I have an uncle that recently married into the family. He's originally from some part of asia that I didn't care to clarify, although an educated guess would say Cambodia. I've posted about him before. Anyway, I don't know if it's down to cultural differences between western and eastern cultures, but he's very touchy and grabby with me and my cousins whenever we get together for family gatherings. It's the kind of thing that a best friend might be able to get away with if you were really close with them, except this guy is like ten years older than me and I hardly know him.

There are some cultures where this type of behavior is normal, but I have a deeply rooted sense of personal space and have shown that I dislike that kind of behavior through the passive way of ignoring it or reacting with shock and disturbed yelps. My cousins have also had similar experiences.

This all might be a cultural misunderstanding, maybe he's just trying to feel like a part of the family by acting like the way he acted in his family back in Cambodia. But then as a 30 something year old he goes and adds and messages all my 16 year old cousin's friends on Facebook. I mean, really now, that's just...creepy!

It's harmless enough I suppose, but I think my Aunt could do a lot better.

Yeesh, that does sound a bit odd. I agree with you here, I wouldn't like all this "touchy feely"ness.

Have you talked to your aunt about this? If it is all just a cross-cultural misunderstanding, she's probably in the best position to sit down with him and talk to him about it.
