Watched Totoro again last night because of these references. Such a good movie

They parodied Pokémon way back in the day as well.

"Chinpokomon"? Yeah, that was a pretty good episode (I had an avatar of a Chinpokomon a while back actually). I guess that because I'm a newer fan of the show I just thought of the Totoro scene noteworthy.

It is. I never would have guessed that. Though, I did hear that Matt and Trey are Japanophiles, so I'm not completely surprised.

Really? I never heard that, though I can believe it. The episode "Good Time with Weapons" then shows that pretty well.

In that episode, the Japanese parts of that theme song actually make sense (I dont recall the translation off the top of my head) because one of them (or maybe both) is a fluent Japanese speaker.

Oh holy shit, that was amazing! Unless I'm wrong, Totoro never really has gotten a huge fanbase in the US (at least compared to Miyazaki's newer films), it's one of my favorites of his. Seeing Totoro in Toy Story 3, and what I just saw right now really made me smile.

It makes me wonder how many other writers, directors, and animators are Totoro fans.

@Hide in Plain Sight: Regardless of "Let's Fighting Love's" translation (which I believe is basically making fun of the song itself), it's still a catchy song. I believe Trey speaks Japanese

@Satoshi-Kun: To say Miyazaki is the Disney of Japan would be a quite accurate compliment, considering his work.I was also peeved that everytime Toonami did a month of Miyazaki, Totoro was never shown (or so I recall). I'm sure lots of people love his work, whether they show it or not, but I'm glad it's getting some recognition. Let's say 2010 is the year of the Totoro :)
