Ideas for New Pokemon - Starters, Legendaries, Evolutions and Crazy Type Combos

With Generation V coming next year, fans are of course wondering what kinds of new Pokemon we'll see in the new games. And that means I'm seeing occasional comments like "They're going to run out of ideas for Pokemon if they keep making games!" Statements like this baffle me. There are SO many things in our world that have not yet been made into Pokemon, and if Pokemon based around the English alphabet are a possibility, I think just about anything could be turned into a Pokemon as long as there's some thought behind the design.
I'm also concerned about making sure that new type combinations are put into use, sparing us from the same old "Bug/Flying," "Bug/Poison," "Normal/Flying" crap that we get in every game. So about a year or so ago, I decided to try to come up with an entire region's worth of Pokemon that used new animals and less of the same obvious types. Here were some of my ideas:
I don't have a problem with keeping the same Grass/Fire/Water circle. However, the secondary types should introduce a different triangle, even if there's an immunity involved. I came up with these:
Grass-type kiwi chick -> Grass/Dark-type turkey/peacock
Yes, these birds aren't related, but Pokemon has all kinds of unrelated animals evolve into different unrelated animals. I want the Grass starter to be the bird-based starter after Torchic and Piplup. Like chickens and penguins, kiwis and turkeys are usually known as flightless birds to the public as well. The peacock could have a very sinister pattern in its wings, lending to its Dark-type.
Fire -> Fire/Psychic-type red pandas
A red panda actually looks nothing like a regular panda bear, so it would be a fresh idea for a mammalian starter. They are actually reddish-brown, so that lends itself to red pandas being Fire-type starters. I have always wanted a pyrokinetic Pokemon and I wonder why it is has taken GameFreak so long to come up with one.
Water-type dolphin -> Water/Fighting-type orca
While it's true that we have whale Pokemon and shark Pokemon, we don't actually have dolphin or killer whale Pokemon. I figure that the final evolution could be Water/Fighting just because these animals can be trained to do tricks. It's not a great excuse, but I really want the secondary type triangle.
NEW TYPE COMBINATIONS
As a preface, in my own games I'd change a bunch of types. Masquerain would be Bug/Water, Volbeat and Illumise would be Bug/Electric, Flygon would be Bug/Dragon, Charizard would be Fire/Dragon, etc. That's why some types like these aren't found below.
-Bug/Fire: fire ants. This is straight forward enough. We don't have any ant Pokemon.
-Bug/Dark: either roaches or a Pinsir evolution with branched out pincers that serves as a Scizor counterpart.
-Bug/Ground: earthworms. We have the type, but not the species.
-Ghost/Ground: zombie Pokemon, but it could also work as Dark/Ground.
-Grass/Ghost: jackolanterns, with a final evolution similar to Pumpkin Rapper from Power Rangers. Could also be Grass/Fire.
-Grass/Fire: a tumbleweed Pokemon who evolves into a burning bush. Doubt that idea would fly with Nintendo of America.
-Ghost/Fighting: ninja Pokemon. Would be a version-exclusive counterpart to...
-Dark/Fighting: nukenin Pokemon. These two would be like Shedinja and Ninjask, only humanshape.
-Poison/Psychic: a wizard family. The Poison seeps into its brain and makes it super-intelligent.
-Ghost/Steel: a possessed knight's armor, much like one of the bosses from the Golden Axe series.
-Water/Fire: either a deepsea tube worm or a Torkoal evolution based on steam rather than smoke.
-Water/Ghost: a pirate skeleton like Spinal from Killer Instinct; evolves into his pirate ship (think a pirate ship version of Drifblim)
-Poison/Rock: new fossil Pokemon, based on salamanders that evolved into dinosaurs.
-Ice/Rock: other new fossil Pokemon, based on the mastodon. Admittedly would be similar to Mamoswine.
-Fighting/Normal: a male Kangaskhan counterpart that can box, much like Roger from the Tekken series.
-Ice/Normal: polar bear; evolves from a Normal baby bear in the north of its region.
-Ground/Normal: black bear; evolves in southwest of its region.
-Grass/Normal: koala bear; evolves in southeast of its region.
-Dark/Electric: the token cat family of the region, black kitten -> wild cat -> panther. Use those yellow eyes to reinforce the electric half.
-Dark/Ground: the token canine family, counterparts to above. Black puppy -> dingo -> coyote. Likes to dig.
-Psychic/Dark: a zebra Pokemon. Instead of black and white, it's black and purple.
-Fighting/Ground: a griffin Pokemon; a mix between lions and eagles, it has Levitate as its ability and eagle Fighting/Flying pre-evolutions.
-Ghost/Dark: a fireball possessed by a ghost. I did have a few different "possession" themed Ghost-types. Such as...
-Ghost/Normal: a cutesy Normal-type that evolves and becomes possessed by a spirit, seeming more mischievous or sinister.
-Ghost/Flying: it'd be a regular Flying-type cloud that becomes possessed, kind of like Mokura from Super Mario RPG.
-Pure Flying: based on wind spirits, kind of like Flurrie from Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door, but they'd be cuter and pixie-like.
-Baby Kangaskhan: in my game with the male Kangaskhan, it would be logical to introduce the baby finally. Normal-type.
-Baby Volbeat/Illumise, because there should be a bridge that connects the two. Bug-type.
-Baby Miltank/Tauros, for the same reason as above. Normal-type.
-Baby Buneary, because the family is very similar to the Pikachu, Marill, Jigglypuff promotional tool style.
-Baby Lapras: it's one of those things that seems almost inevitable.
-Pinsir evolution: as described above. Dark and Steel were the new types in Gen. II, but we got no Pinsir evolution or Bug/Dark.
-Spinda evolution: make it a happiness evolution and make it more like a normal panda bear.
-Luvdisc evolution: evolve it into a Cupid-like figure so it's less uncreative.
-Girafarig evolution: a qilin-based evolution that's Psychic/Ghost. Also give it a baby form (pure Normal).
-Farfetch'd evolution: the Fighting/Flying-type Japanese warrior that a lot of people want.
-Jynx evolution: make her more royal, like a Jynx/Princess Peach-hybrid. Jynx's counterparts evolved in Gen IV and she was rejected.
-Torkoal evolution: as described previously. Torkoal should get a new baby form so it's a Fire counterpart of Squirtle and Turtwig.
-Dragon-type Eevee: give it good Speed/Attacks to finish off the Special types and add a purely-offense Eevee. Only ONE new Eevee.
I don't really care too much about Legendaries, so I put far less thought into them. However, I want the version mascots, up-front, to be based on the types that don't have Legendary Pokemon yet: Bug, Poison and Fighting. They can be based on literally anything as long as they have those three types. I'd like the lesser Legendary trio (e.g. birds, beasts, etc.) to be a threesome of Dragons that have different type combinations: a black Dragon/Dark based on offense, a brown Dragon/Fighting based on speed and a purple Dragon/Poison based on defense.
The cutesy event Legendary (i.e. Mew, Jirachi, etc. archetype) could be a Psychic/Electric-type; the Uber event Legendary (i.e. Deoxys archetype) could be based on the concept of the yin/yang and be either Fire/Ice, like Gill from Street Fighter III, or Normal/Dark. The pseudo-legendary Dragonite-like family could be Dragon/Rock gargoyles. Finally, I'd have another joke "legendary" that isn't a true Legendary, like Generation IV had Rotom, in the form of a tanuki.
Some of my "other" ideas follow some of GameFreak's recurring archetypes while using new animals and ideas.
-The early Normal/Flying birds would be based on woodpeckers and cranes, using those long beaks.
-The early Bugs would be mosquitoes. The early rodents would be a hamster that evolves into a guinea pig (might as well make them unused species and as cute as possible if you have insist on having them!).
-I'd have a spider Pokemon that has a branched evolutions into a Bug/Poison black widow that's OFFENSIVE and a Bug/Ground or Bug/Fighting male tarantula that's DEFENSIVE. (Usually females are defensive and males offensive in Pokemon.)
-A pillbug Pokemon. It'd be Bug/Rock, but not another Shuckle in that it wouldn't be pure defense with no offense.
-An anteater Pokemon, which we don't have yet. It could be pure Ground-type, which we do already have. But since I'd have fire ants, they could be adversaries.
-A pure Ice-type snowman Pokemon. It'd have a ton of HP, Special Attack and Special Defense. Its ability would be one that halves the effectiveness of Fighting-, Rock- and Steel-type moves (but not Fire-type).
-A new set of bunnies. I originally had the thought of Normal/Grass-type bunnies with leafy ears, but that was before I reworked the geography-specific baby bear to evolve into Normal/Grass-type koala. Really, just make the token bunnies of the region a Normal/something-type. (Wigglytuff, Azumarill, Whismur and Buneary were in previous Generations, so new rabbits might be inevitable.)
