I just got told off on Facebook by a girl I used to work with

Why is it that being in front of a monitor emboldens people to say things that they never would in real life? A girl I work with comments on facebook about frustration with working in the customer service industry. I reply in agreement with the offhand comment "yeah people are stupid". This other really sweet, mild-mannered, mature girl we both used to work with gets really offended by that for some reason and proceeds to tell me off about my overall attitude at work.
Kinda hard to be all pleasant and positive and friendly with every coworker when several of them are lazy and take any chance they get to stand around and chat instead of work, or else can't keep their hands off their phones. Most of them are much friendlier with each other than they are with me, and I've been having a really hard time fitting in, even though I've been there for 7 months now. I'm the first to admit that my social skills are poor, but I'm quite capable of carrying on a conversation and being cordial. I don't understand why it's so difficult there though.
Sorry, I just needed to rant.
