...they wished Red was the main character in the Pokemon anime instead of Satoshi?

Oh, look. There's Red if they used him in the anime instead. There's barely any difference besides the jacket being red, a slightly different hat, and no birthmarks on his cheek. People act as if the story would be any different if they named the anime version of the RBGY hero "Red" instead of "Satoshi". Satoshi was fine the way he was. The way he is now in BW, if he were named Red, it would still be the same.

There is more than a slight difference.

-Red caught em all, Ash still about 40 from all the regions.

    -Red can defeat his rival.

    -Red actually beat a league.

-Red is not a complete idiot.

If he caught them all, Mewtwo wouldn't be available in HeartGold and SoulSilver.

Satoshi defeated Shigeru, like Red defeated Green.

Satoshi beat the Orange League and the Battle Frontier.

Says who? Your headcanon? It's hard to tell if he's smart either. Where the hell are people getting his personality from? Fanart?

Satoshi is the anime version of Red. That's how they wrote Red in the anime, as they saw him. The anime was originally intended to run for a year and a half, with Satoshi winning the Pokemon League. Then they decided to extend it... and extend it... and extend it, so they keep him from accomplishing anything significant, like beating the Elite 4. If Satoshi was named Red instead, the same crap would have happened to "Red" because it's the same writers. The whole reset thing is the fault of the writers who don't know how to write a protagonist, and give them the justice they deserve. I mean, hello, Hikari was the one that took on the Shin'ou League in the Diamond and Pearl games, not Satoshi. The anime is a different interpretation. Her game counterpart becomes Champion, but doesn't in the anime... yet it's a travesty that Satoshi is guilty of the same thing in terms of comparison with his game counterpart? Because Red totally wouldn't be subject to the same treatment in the anime, no siree, he's immune to bad writing. Yeah, no.

People assume they'd suddenly write the anime the same way as the games, or Pokemon Special, if they had adapted Red with the name Red. It would, in reality, be the exact same thing. Every problem people have with Satoshi is the fault of the writers, not the character being named Satoshi. It being "Red" instead of Satoshi wouldn't make a difference, because Satoshi was already the writer's interpretation of Red. Takeshi is different from how he is in the games, favoring being a breeder/doctor over a Gym Leader. Kasumi is different from how she is in the games. A bunch of things are different from the games! Yet he totally can't be the anime version of Red, simply because he isn't exactly the same as how *you* viewed the silent protagonist/NPC. Really now. I love it how people act as if Satoshi is the only damn deviation from the games, like some seed of evil or something.

The writers of the anime are independent from the people that design the games. The way they're handling Satoshi right now is the exact same way they'd handle ANY protagonist. Calling the RBGY rival "Green" instead of Shigeru and the RBGY hero "Red" instead of Satoshi? "Red" would be screwed over by the writers exactly the same way as Satoshi. Mostly because Satoshi is how they wrote Red in the anime. Green would have just as much of a chance of becoming a researcher instead of a Gym Leader, if he were written by the same writers.

Note that I'm talking about how "Red" would be if he were written in the anime, which was already Satoshi, not inserting the game canon into the anime canon like every other nutjob that can't differentiate. Logically speaking, he'd be the same.

    He released Mewtwo.

No one cares about the Orange Islands (just five sucky trainers) and the Battle Frontier isn't even a true league.

Many of them don't even share his name, some don't even remotely share the same experiences, but no one ever complains about them or deny that they're different versions of Red for those specific canons (not including the stupid fanart version of him, which shouldn't even be there).

Plus, if you're talking about Special!Red, he DIDN'T catch them all. In fact, he has *less* Pokemon than Satoshi. Wow, so much for that. :/

    He released Mewtwo.
    How is this not idiotic?

It's stupid for Satoshi to not catch legendaries and release his Pokemon, but it's OK for Red to do the same? Releasing an enhanced version of Mew? One of the strongest Psychic Pokemon? Really?

Regardless, there's no basis to even claim this. Stop shoving your headcanon into actual canon. What, did *you* release Mewtwo when you were playing Blue version or something? I could play Red version and keep Mewtwo. Red, the game character, is left open for interpretation. He has no canonical personality other than being a mute. Unless it's stated that he caught Mewtwo or released it, he didn't.

No one cares about the Orange Islands (just five sucky trainers) and the Battle Frontier isn't even a true league.
How were they bad trainers? The battle with the Head Leader was one of the best written battles the anime had to offer.

And while not exactly a league, the Battle Frontier was pretty Gym-ish in the anime (I didn't agree with this, but that is a different story), with them being depicted as skilled as any other high-ranked trainer in the anime. And two of the Brains had legendaries. That's an accomplishment worth noting (and a reason to note that him losing anything after this was complete BS, and was bad writing).

    1. Stop saying "Satoshi" and call him his real name.
    2. Ash is a corruption of Red to appeal to kids.
Now you're just trolling. The first is self-explanatory as to why (either that or you're just a prick - sorry, I just find that extremely obnoxious if you're being serious), the second is just missing the point completely.

Red is just you. That's why he's so loved, and everyone thinks he's so much cooler than Satoshi. Narcissism.

It seems like this is pretty much the case. Every time there's a Youtube video or something of Satoshi battling competently, there's always that one person who says "for once he battles like Red!" or something along the lines. How exactly does Red battle? ...like *you*? lol

I mean, it really doesn't make much sense otherwise, unless they're confusing the Special manga with the games again. In which case, aside from the anime writers' inconsistencies with portraying Satoshi's competence in battle, he's not that different from Special Red personality-wise. In fact, I doubt Kusaka would have given up the chance to incorporate a few cues from the anime way back when in terms of writing the RBGY hero.

Other than that, I think it's funny that they don't realize the narcissism will cease once Red is written into an anime/manga, and the writers have to give him his own personality... which, again, is basically Satoshi, and every other manga version of Red. xD Of course, I can also take it another way - the fans want themselves to be the main character. :P

Yes I tottally agree! That the game Red that some love to hype up is basically the player and Game!Red and Pokespe!Red are'nt even the same canon. And they both are different personality wise.
