Special package includes:
- Genesect film and prologue special, about the new Mewtwo that has the female voice and mannerisms.
- The original Mewtwo saga (Mewtwo Strikes Back! Kanzenban and the Mewtwo Jouto special, no CD Drama), including his first armored appearance in the Kanto anime.

...Wow, OLM. For all of that ignoring a great character and creating a messy continuity snarl because "kids wouldn't recognize him", you sure are trying your damnest to introduce him to kids!

Nobody makes sense anymore.

I remember Dogasu saying that merely re-airing Movie 1 on TV wasn't enough, and that they would have released a DVD package to introduce the original Mewtwo to kids had it been relevant to Movie 16.

    Irony at its finest.

A CD Drama not being included in a DVD set is pretty understandable :/

Also I'm pretty sure they never stated that they created the new Myuutwo because "kids wouldn't recognize him."

Better than them fudging up the old Mewtwo and Bulbagardeners crying more.

IIRC, Yuyama just said using a new Mewtwo would just be better.

Of course. And nowhere was I faulting them for that. When *I* say "Mewtwo saga", I include the CD Drama with that (some others probably do too), so I just threw in that tidbit just because.

CDs and artbooks being bundled with DVD/BD anime sets aren't unheard of either, so yeah. Just wanted to point out that the special package doesn't really include everything Mewtwo-related (it also seems to exclude the other two Kanto episodes he appeared in).

Also I'm pretty sure they never stated that they created the new Myuutwo because "kids wouldn't recognize him."
I never said they did. That's the retort people that defend the decision use, which is BS. How do people rationalize the writer's decision? They don't, they come up with shit like that. They use it for almost everything.

The alternative is the ol' "they're the writers, they did it because they can whatever they want" to silence valid fan complaints. This AVGN quote basically sums up my thoughts on that (albeit more obscene and offensive): "Yeah, you know what, that’s a pointless argument right there. That’s like if your dad says, "I fucked your mom." It’s like, "...I can’t argue with that!"

Seeing the original Mewtwo being represented by a new female-Mewtwo artwork style doesn't exactly feel right either.

That's actually exactly what you said:

Everything else in your blog post was presented as being your opinion so why would I have assumed that this line was any different?

You have a sarcasm detector? Useful gadget. That was quite obviously a jab at the people that argued with me in the original move thread using that logic. Don't twist my words around. As a person who was constantly citing the re-airing of the first movie and argued against people saying "kids wouldn't recognize the original Mewtwo", why would I use that reason? That's like me suddenly saying that the target audience is filled with a bunch of moronic toy-obsessed brats, even though that's the exact thing I've been arguing against this entire time as a fan of the franchise.

That one line, the only line of "opinion" in this blog post, was a sarcastic jab at the people who tried to justify the existence of the new Mewtwo using that as a claim. Dogasu, you make the same type of jabs towards 4Kids and nonsensical fan opinions in your episode comparisons, so you're actually the last person I expected not to get it. =/

My real opinion? The continuity snarl isn't because of them thinking kids wouldn't recognize Mewtwo (they re-aired the first movie and are selling it to kids in this special package, for Pete's sake!), it's because they clearly didn't give a shit and did whatever they pleased.

    -----

Complaints aside, it's nice to see the first movie get (another) release, as well as the original Mewtwo special. I don't want to have to waste my money on the Movie 16 parts, though (I'm seriously not interested), so I'm afraid I'll personally have to pass on this.

The "sarcastic jab" wasn't obvious at all. Maybe it would have been more obvious if it didn't require us to have in-depth knowledge of a conversation that went on in a thread that was active for all of one day before it was closed down nearly six months ago?

(also, I made all of one post in that original thread and then bailed as soon as the pointless bitching about Myuutwo took over the thread so I didn't actually read any of the arguments / complaints you posted there)

@Dogasu Well, I was repeating the same point over and over again in every Mewtwo thread that went on, not just that one. I mean, alright, I can agree that it might have not been obvious to people who never touched those discussions/just stumbled upon my blog (especially since I absolutely refuse to hold peoples' hands using [/sarcasm] tags, and leave it up to seeing the in-joke and/or context).

So yeah, now that that's all cleared up, let's all get along and hold hands.

I honestly don't recall seeing you repeating those points. Guess I should have paid more attention :/

So this DVD set is saying it's containing "every appearance of Myuutwo" yet, as mentioned earlier, it doesn't have those other Kanto episodes in which it appears. It also doesn't include "The Mastermind of Mirage Pokemon" special in which a Myuutwo was very prominent.

@Dogasu: I always thought it was strange that they ever bothered giving that a Japanese dub to begin with if they weren't going to have it available either on home release or for reruns after the initial internet stream. You'd think this DVD set would have been the perfect opportunity. It's pretty rare...

Guess this blatant disregard of a product somehow hints that the Japanese Pokemon Company views it as non-canon? Hm.

The special's aired on Kids Station a few times.

But! It's never been made available on rental DVD, which is quite odd considering everything else at least gets that.
