Satoshi looks cool here. I appreciate that the first two episodes look like they're going to be more eventful than usual, but judging the first two episodes based on the teaser alone is ignorant. My hope for Satoshi is that he's a more mature version of his lovable character in the original series. Takeshi Shudo's Satoshi was the best Satoshi (see: Japanese version of Lord of the Unknown Tower's Entei battle and his dialogue).

Citron sounds like a younger version of Eren Jaeger from Shigeki no Kyojin (a.k.a. strangely translated as Attack on Titan by the creators). That's nice, considering they have the same seiyuu.

Eriika's so cute. But considering they're willing to bring back the reporters from Lord of the Unknown Tower, I'd say Mii would have made a more interesting and preferable child companion. Can't separate an imouto from her onii-chan, though, I suppose. Screw y'all that says she'll be an annoying little kid.

Serena's seems pretty composed, and I love how her seiyuu sounds. She's done mostly background roles in other anime, so this might be her big break.

It's clear she met Satoshi during her childhood. Zettai ano toki no... Yoshi! Kimieta! However, it's too early for me to be pointing fingers and calling her a childhood friend. It's possible that she simply met Satoshi briefly during her childhood, and he did something to inspire her.

I kind of wish that role would have been taken on by an anime version of Blue/Leaf. She's a lot more fitting, considering Satoshi is the anime version of Red. And it's been THREE FRIGGIN' GENERATIONS and they still haven't shown her in anime form. One of the first reasons she makes me weary. I just hope Blue/Leaf, at the very least, appears as a rival for Satoshi one day. It'd be funny if Serena's background ends up exactly the same as how I'm writing Blue/Leaf (Sayako) for my manga project.

The second reason that makes me weary. I hope the childhood encounter with Satoshi is simply admiration and nothing more. I admit it's mostly bias because I'm a big fan of SatoKasu, a.k.a. PokeShipping. I also love its game version, HanadaShipping (Red x Game Kasumi), but I'm more of a supporter of the former. It also saddens me as a Kasumi fan. I feel it disrespects the little existence she has left.

I was almost tearing up when I read Mayumi Iizuka's Twitter, where she was pouring out about the vocal cast change in The Origin special and telling fans not to forget her Kasumi. I remember BMGf used to be a safe haven from all the anti-Kasumi fans back in the day. Now it's the opposite - you can't be a Kasumi fan without being seen as a joke anymore. Kind of makes me sad. It's not cool, guys. It's not cool at all...

Enough of that... The character profile page states that she's a girl from Kalos (duh) that likes fashion and that she's met Satoshi in the past (Once? Or are they really childhood friends (osananajimi)? We'll see). In regards to the fashion, I hope she isn't shoved into a stereotypical girly role. That kind of role has grown tiresome. My favorite counterpart of a Player Character was Sapphire from Pokemon Special because she broke free from being a dress-up doll. But Anime Serena's cute, so I won't most likely won't *hate* her.

The Mega Bashaamo and Mega Gaburias plot? Meh. I would be more interested if it was something that was related to Xerneas or Yveltal. But I appreciate the apparent focus on action - a premiere hasn't looked this eventful since the first episodes of the OS, so that kind of makes me excited to watch.

I'll stick around for twenty or so episodes. If XY impresses me more than disappoints me, I'll stick around until the end. I have better anime to watch, after all.
Whereas you're right that Takeshi wasn't as boring as he was in DP, I feel that AG should have been Satoshi coming-of-age series if he wasn't going to win the Jouto League. He sounded like an expert and the wisest group member in the first few episodes of AG. Takeshi returning really soured that.

(Satoshi should have pulled Takeshi's ear in DP. :P)
Agreed on both accounts. Satoshi really feel like he matured a lot in AG, and the first few episodes when he was mentoring Haruka really demonstrated his growth as a trainer. It really would've worked out better if Takeshi didn't return when you think about it: I mean, I know I would've still missed him, but it would've really helped him to save face, and be remembered as a great character by much of the fandom, IMO. Add to that, the spotlight would've really been on Satoshi to lead the pack.

Honestly, that would've been fine with me if that occurred in DP: I liked it when characters pulled his ear, and the time Satoshi pulled Takeshi's ear in Jouto was hilarious! The Poison Jab thing never did it for me for some reason or another. xD.

I still think it's gonna be odd for Japanese kids to see Takeshi in Origins voiced by Sugita, then turn around and the next day see him back to being voiced by Ueda in the Cilan/Brock Special.

Same with Orchid. But I think they're intelligent enough to discern that they're two different universes.

Well, XY Satoshi is basically FRLG Red with the appealing features of Red's Gen I design incorporated. I always preferred Gen I Red to Gen III Red, personally, and XY Satoshi is a good meld. Origin Red... not so much, but it's an OK attempt at a meld I suppose. Appearances aside, I have high hopes for Origin Red's character.

It pains me to say but its true, its obvious how writers don't care anymore about continuity, past and previous creations they wrote for with quality not being their biggest occupation as far as show goes. Latest departure between Ash and his Unova friends and lab episode at Pallet reflects this.

Additionally using entirely different Mewtwo for Genesect movie, removing previous traveling companions from face of existence(be it Misty, May, Max etc)accompanied with inconsistent story and little to no throwbacks to past achievements and events which influenced series plot is writers way of sending message "screw previous characters, screw older fans and continuity", alienating their customers with such approach sending out bad message out there.

When even voice actors like Misty's VA Mayumi Iizuka in this case start feeling concerned about future of certain characters and their treatment being abandoned like disposable trash whose story never mattered not bothering to build on it and finish it, whose influence to series plot and its protagonists was for nothing becoming upset over their treatment , it sheds lot of light on how inconsiderate and callous writers of pokemon anime are.

Im not surprised at all if Misty VA is saddened about Misty prospect of showing in future. After putting lot of effort and emotion in extracting character personality and make him feel natural and faithful to himself who wouldn't feel disappointed that someone who they helped to gain life and become popular could very likely never return or get recognition in this anime?

There is lot of true in what she said asking people not to forget Misty, because longer someone is absent, more and more people will forget about him, along with new generations never getting chance to find out about him.

Its sad and disrespecting to see how one of most popular characters out there is treated nowadays like she never mattered or existed. They should at least finished what they started about her if they don't have motivation in bringing Misty ever again. Instead of leaving her story and dreams of becoming water master unfinished using gym as plotline to keep her of cast without further steps forward being made leaving things undefined regarding future and her motivations. They left things unanswered hanging in air with her last appearance giving out wrong impression of there being chance to return again.

I guess writers and producers of this anime don't realize in slightest how their approach only alienate people away, reflect badly on show reputation and contributes in drop of popularity. In order to have healthy successful franchise which can attract all kind of people toward it, have continuity based story filled with quality and interesting twists its desirable to innovate and keep those which helped build series plot and popularity relevant making people stay interested in anime and spread popularity to wider group of fans rejuvenating their interest.

They are losing their fans with inconsiderate moves and ignorance only netting pokemon bad etiquette. I know many people who are frustrated and peeved about direction in which writers took this show having wrongly set priorities not recognizing potential when it exists and in what way franchise could benefit from it.

Most other anime which replace characters and are set within same time line(like Bakugan, Inazuma Eleven go, Dragon ball GT back in day) tend to bring older ones back eventually to develop them further and make relevant to story again helping to advance it with new/fresh things, so i don't see why pokemon wouldn't do the same?

Not to mention its always interesting to see how would older companion interact with new ones adding that extra flavor to character interaction, have them grow in more meaningful way expanding on their plots and provides more references and flashbacks to past strengthening continuity of pokemon series.

Which seems to be unpopular opinion in here with most not caring for previous characters, build on their stories or keeping series connected with its history. Back than people actually cared being for instead of against it.

And your right. Nowadays its ungrateful to be Misty fan without being viewed as "obsessive fanboy stuck in past" around here. Bulbagarden which once used to be place where people appreciated OS and characters from that era turned in complete opposite with said series and Misty only being viewed as joke, mistake of long gone times which "should have never happened."
Not appreciating depth and strong personality Misty had and still has(she really shined in hosos and Hoenn cameos)not caring for her story and if she will ever return again. Im one of rare ones which do.

You know whats sad? How chances of Misty becoming E4 in games aren' that farfetched. In Goild and Silver she stated how she is planning to go on journey to travel and grow stronger implying to have higher desires. Something which goes in correlation with Misty from anime wanting to become water master, strongest water specialist in world admiring Lorelei(viewed as her idol).

If it happens i can already see writers missing completely on yet again another opportunity of showing Misty not bothering to pick up her story and do build up on it, or use her to advertize games in case Nintendo ever makes sequel.

^ AGREED. Couldn't have said it better, myself.

I actually do have my fingers crossed that one day Kasumi will be an Elite Four member of one of the newer generations. Kasumi in the games also idolizes Kanna. I feel that they should explore this aspect of her character more in the anime version... no, in all versions of the character, to be frank.

Ash does look badass here ???
    But the question is-
If Ash just going to look badass or He will be Badass ???
There no point of Ash looking Badass if he can't do anything to stop/save the Garchamp.

I have to admit, I did like Brock returning for Hoenn, at least at the beginning. Honestly I think the other reason he stayed was because Max had no Pokemon, so they didn't just want two characters on the group with pokemon.

I started to get bored of Brock around the time Battle Frontier was airing, but I figured that was still part of AG, so the writers weren't going to axe him mid-generation.

Why he stayed for DP though makes me sick to my stomach to this day. I remember being horrified when I saw the DP cast revealed in 2006. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

I suppose reason why writers kept Brock in Hoenn was because they felt he is fulfilling his role of older brother and caretaker to main group well enough along for continuity purposes and more stable cast having additional familiar character to who people could connect show with.

I dunno about you guys, i didn't found Brock stale in Hoenn and BF.

He had memorable interactions with all characters with inclusion of Max as fourth traveling companion helping his character to have someone to who he could relate having things in common adding for solid and good dynamic. Brock also while not enough got pretty good focus showcasing his skills as breeder when taking care of various pokemon like Bonsly, Sharpedo, Shiftry, Donphan etc. battling May in contest, battling with Ash vs TR in Pewter gym, evolving his pokemon in Ludicolo and Marshtamp along with having many humorous moments. It felt like his character is going somewhere with breeding career learning about new ways to prepare food(like pokeblocks),medicines, taking care of sick Bagion or nurse Joy ending recognized by quite a few breeders like Yuma, Jaco or Isis.

On other hand it was shame to see him sidelined so much in DP. Now i wont deny he had some great moments.
Like when he paired up with Holy in tag battle tournament, when he helped girl in Miltank Maid cafe encouraging her to be calm and more determine when approaching problems,he showed impressive knowledge for a breeder when he took care of sick Pachirisu with Dawn learning something from him,or when he helped to heal sick pokemon which were attacked by Tentacruel.

He also got to play some role in Team Galactic arc and got his first egg of Happiny thanks to which he could utilize his knowledge of breeder to full potential taking care of it.

Though point still stands,he got rather short end of stick in Sinnoh painting bad image around himself. Still like i said before with right idea its never late to revamp character and retrieve its appeal making him enjoyable in viewer eyes again.

To be perfectly honest while i liked Brock i still feel Misty should had stayed for Hoenn. It had so many opportunities from which character could gain a lot regarding her water career in form of Juan, Wallace, water rich areas, lot of diverse dual type pokemon, villains connected with water etc. And it would have been nice see them breaking new grounds on what was started with Whirl Cup fleshing out character more. Imo group dynamic would flourish even more thanks to her quirky, headstrong personality bringing wide stream of emotions into cast and presence of another girl May would push chemistry to whole new level.

    Sad it didn't happen.

Brock was good in Hoenn, and even in Battle Frontier, he was still alright as a character. I mean, he wasn't as good as he was in Kanto and Johto, but he still did a lot and really contributed to the group. It was interesting to see his team have such variety and Brock utilizing Water types quite frequently: for a Rock type specialist, it made him seem more varied. He also had some really unique interactions with Max, sort of acting like a big brother to him. His perverted stunts were actually still pretty funny as well. In Sinnoh, I will admit that as much as I disliked the direction his character had taken, he still had his moments: like the Tag Battle Tournament in Hearthome City where he found Holly (I admit, that was great), and the Miltank Maid Cafe episode where he helped out Autumn. However, most of the time, he was treated horribly. The writers gave him very few moments to shine, and as a result, he was sidelined and treated poorly in that arc itself. He had potential, but like everything else, the writers really botched his character there.

Yeah, as seen with Cilan and now Clemont, its obvious Brock could have been replaced much earlier.

These are characters who could have replaced him in Sinnoh:

    1. Barry (he wouldn't be Ash's rival, but a good friend)

    2. Reggie

    3. Gary

    4. Conway

With a little tweaking it could have been done.
