Koga was never one to sleep for long hours at night. Forty odd years of ninjitsu left him a light sleeper and only able to sleep the minimum hours. Even after being exhausted from certain rigorous activities, he still woke up when the sun wasn't anywhere near from rising. At his age, though, it should never have been half draped over a man twice as large as himself, especially so ungainly (or comfortably, for that matter).
Surge, on the other hand, was a dead log. Once he too slept with minimum hours, but those days were long over and he had slowly reverted back to a civilian's way of shut-eye: perfectly obnoxious, or so Koga thought. Because this wasn't the first time Koga had woken up to Surge sleeping like a log, like he was an inclusive feature to Koga's room. He moved off of him to lay on his elbows, flush against his side, and simply watched that sleeping face.
The blond didn't look any different, awake or asleep. Still handsome, with lines only beginning to form on his face. A mouth that didn't snore, but breathed open and wide. Hair without gel to hold it up, floppy and thin and, best of all (secretly so), fluffy. It became almost like a treat, given how many times a month they could even see each other, and it was always Surge who was more willing to abandon his post in Vermillion City, which Koga chastised him for. But he would always return the next day (like a kicked puppy), and it hurt Koga, too. Gym Leaders had responsibilities to the many trainers in the world; they couldn't always be leaving their gym to have fun. It wasn't right, and it wasn't fair, and Koga wanted it differently.
And he had an idea that would make it work. If only Surge would stop interrupting his work to make it happen. No, Janine did not need to be distracted from her training. No, he didn't need to be distracted, either. How was he supposed to free himself up if he wasn't going to be up to snuff, when the time came? "Mathias," he whispered affectionately, "you idiot."
Koga was really going to need to start denying him. Though once he became an Elite, he could make it up to Surge. Personally.
